The Ultimate Free Throw Challenge January 8, 2011 The most important free throws you will ever make! Participation Packet The Ultimate Free Throw Challenge The Ultimate Free Throw Challenge is a simple way that you can make a difference in the lives of kids across the world. Every free throw you make can earn money to build multi-purpose sports courts for kids in impoverished communities. Plus, you are competing against other free throw shooters for a chance to win some great prizes based on how much money you can raise and how many free throws you can make! Are you up to the challenge? 1. Sign up Pick up an info packet, or download one at www.courtsforkids.org. Email Derek at [email protected] or let your local teacher/coach who gave you the packet know that you are participating. 2. Get pledges Sign up friends and family to sponsor you per free throw made out of 100. For example, if you can find 10 people to sponsor you $0.50 per free throw made, and you make 60 free throws, then you have raised $0.50 x 60 x 10= $300 to help give kids a safe place to play sports. See pages 5 and 6 for fundraising tools. 3. Shoot your free throws Come to Kingsway High School on January 8th to shoot your free throws. If you’re not sure where the gym is or what time to be there, contact Derek at [email protected]. 4. Collect the money Now that you know how many free throws you made, go back to your friends and family and collect the money. Every donation is 100% tax-deductible for the donor. If you raise at least $100, you will be eligible for some great prizes shown on page 4. You must turn in the money by January 20th, in order to be eligible for the prizes. Your donors will also be able to donate online. 5. Make a difference At some point in 2010, a volunteer team from Courts for Kids will travel to the community in need, and work together to build a sports court, using the money you raised! If you give us your email address, we will send you an update of where your money was used and the impact it had! Making a Difference We are so fortunate in America to have countless opportunities to play sports. In every community, you can find sports fields, playground equipment and courts at every elementary school. There are plenty of parks to choose from and many people even have basketball courts in their own yards or driveways. For most kids, the ability to play sports gives them something positive to channel their energy into. Plus, sports teaches a number of life lessons such as perseverance, character, teamwork, etc. Can you imagine your life without playing sports? Many kids around the world grow up without any safe places to play sports. Either they try to make the most of their situation, like the kids below with the ‘soccer ball,’ or they spend their time engaged in destructive behaviors, like violence, drugs, or alcohol. The funds you raise will go to help build multi-purpose sports courts in the developing world, like the one pictured below in Honduras. As of today, Courts for Kids has built 19 courts throughout the world, from Latin America to Africa to Asia. We will bring a volunteer team who will ensure that the money you raise will go directly to the court costs. Who would have thought that shooting free throws could make a huge difference in the lives of kids around the world? If you are participating in this event with the Dan Dickau Basketball Academy, a portion of your money raised will go into a scholarship fund for the Academy. If you are participating in this event and are serving on a Courts for Kids trip, 50% of the money raised can go towards your trip expenses.
