Highfields Primary School – Physical Health & Wellbeing Termly Report Standards at the end of Autumn Term/Spring Term/Summer Term (Please delete as appropriate) Nursery Reception Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 Explanation & Evaluation of the above: Planned next steps to raise standards: Monitoring of Quality of Provision Brief Outline of Monitoring Undertaken this Term Pupil Voice – During the Spring term in my TLR time I spoke to small groups of children to get an idea of their perception on PSHE in school. The key questions I asked are below. 1) What is SEAL/PSHE? 2) What do you do in your SEAL lessons? 3) How often do you do these lessons? Planning Monitoring – Plans were monitored in autumn term with targets set based on this academic year. Follow up monitoring was carried out at the end of spring term to see if actions had been worked on. Sports Premium Funding was used from the sports premium to hold a healthy schools week during the Summer term. Summary of Findings Pupil Voice 2/14 classes knew what PSHE/SEAL stood for. The other 12 classes demonstrated they knew what was discussed in these lessons but not what the abbreviations stood for. All classes have been asked to explain this to the children so that they can make a link. 12/14 classes showed that SEAL lessons were happening on a weekly basis as outlined in the policy. Pupils from all 14 classes showed that the children knew what activities they undertook in these lessons, during the spring 2 discussions the themes the children spoke about matched those that should be taught in that term. Planning Monitoring Highfields Primary School – Physical Health & Wellbeing Termly Report 15/15 teachers acted on the target to promote the PSHE ethos by having a display/area in classroom. This included 6 classes having their own class display books. 12/15 teachers acted on previous targets regarding provision to ensure it was now being planned for. 2/15 partially met targets, areas not covered have been discussed and these are quick wins on using 1CT and transferring pupil assessment to class teacher assessment. 2/15 haven’t met the targets they had been set. I have discussed the targets with these members and I have informed them that I will be checking plans etc in the summer term. Sports Premium Data for this is currently being collected by Jag’s Patel and the impact of this will be collated as part of my PE Sports Premium impact. Planned next steps to improve the quality of provision The mapping overview will now be developed further by myself and Lynne Tilby so that we can add tighter links between SMSC and PSHE. The new overview will include whole school assembly themes that will also filter through phase and class assemblies. This will ensure that PSHE/SMSC principles are taught directly and discretely. The school website will be used to show all stakeholders the work we are carrying out this area. This may be an area that is developed with the school council. Monitoring will focus on year groups that have not demonstrated the requirements of this academic year during the follow up monitoring. This will be my focus for autumn term. Whole school monitoring will focus on whether staff are using the updated mapping overview. School Improvement Plan Please include update of areas addressed, work of PE and Health Curriculum group. A copy of RAG rated SIP could be added here for reference. School Improvement Plan Priority Action Reference 6 To ensure PSHE continues to be addressed through the new curriculum. To map health and well- being into the new curriculum so that it becomes embedded.
