The Governors and staff support the wearing of this uniform. 1.2 We also believe that certain school activities are facilitated by specialised and appropriate clothing, such as PE and outside learning (including organised events outside normal school hours). 2 Aims Our policy is based on the belief that a school uniform: identifies the children with the school makes children feel equal to one another in terms of appearance is regarded as suitable, and good value for money, by most parents. 3 Role of Class teachers and Support Staff 3.1 Set a good example in terms of dress. 3.2 Remember that in our respective roles we serve the local community as a set of professionals. 3.3 Remind children to wear school uniform. The class teacher will speak to children who do not wear the correct uniform. If children continually attend school wearing clothing that is deemed not to be uniform, they are to be referred to the Head Teacher. 4 Role of the Head Teacher 4.1 The Head Teacher is to ensure that pupils comply with the uniform policy agreed by the governing body. 4.2 The Head Teacher will speak to the parents of children who persistently do not wear the correct uniform. 4.3 The school will follow the DfE guidelines and not consider exclusion from the school where a pupil fails to comply with the school’s rules on uniform. 5 Role of the Parents/Guardians Page 2 V 5.1 To ensure that their child / children adhere to the school’s uniform policy. Ensure that they come to school in uniform everyday unless there are special circumstances such as non-uniform days. 5.2 To ensure that all uniform is labelled correctly and clearly. 6 Uniform Reception and KS1 Grey skirt, trousers, shorts or pinafore Sky blue shirt and tie, or, sky blue school polo shirt* Navy blue school cardigan or jumper* Grey or white long/ankle socks or grey or black tights Black sensible shoes (no trainers) Warm, showerproof coat Summer Term and beginning of Autumn Term – optional pale blue and white gingham summer dress Book bags and coats with the school logo are available from the school office. We do not allow headwear to be worn during class time or inside school buildings, except for religious or medical reasons. 8.2 All clothing should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. This is especially important, as uniform items look similar and can easily be confused for another child’s. The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items. 9 Equalities 9.1 All children have equal access to wearing school uniform regardless of their culture, race, religion, gender, disability or ability. We ensure that the set uniform respects other policies such as Equalities and allows for individual sets of circumstances of all groups and individuals. St Mary the Virgin CE School is committed to creating a positive climate that will enable everyone to work free from harassment and to achieve their full potential. 9.2 Governors should be willing to consider reasonable requests for flexibility in the uniform policy for an individual pupil to accommodate particular social and cultural circumstances. 10 Complaints and challenges to school uniform policy 10.1 Disputes about school uniforms should be resolved locally and should be pursued in accordance with the school’s complaints policy. 10.2 If a school has in place a contract with a specific supplier, the governing body should ensure that the supplier has an agreed procedure to deal with parental complaints about the supply and quality of uniform. 11 Approval of this Uniform POLICY:- Emma Maltby, Acting Headteacher: Signature:……………………………………………………………………….
