SITE SECURITY
After completing a security risk assessment for the school site
and talking with Rachael Parish, we have decided to lock the side
gate by pre-school during the day. It will be opened at the start
and the end of the school day before and after school, at the
normal times when children arrive or leave at the end of the day.
Outside of these times access to both the Willow Set and the School will
be via the main gate.

CLASS 1 FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE
We had a super afternoon working with Sam from the Heritage Service learning all
about Florence Nightingale. The girls dressed up as nurses and the boys were
wounded soldiers. The girls were very busy bandaging the boys up and feeding them
soup to make them better. The girls had to do the washing, ironing and scrubbing too
so they were very busy! Luckily, all the boys got better. We also looked at lots of
photographs and things that Florence used like her famous lamp. We saw the medal
she got from the Queen after the war had finished. Ask your children what they
learned.
“I was pleased that we finally learned about a famous girl” Emily
“I liked looking at all the things in her suitcase that she took to Scutari hospital”
Lillie
“I liked being a poorly soldier. My leg was chopped off!” Harry L
“I liked looking at her lamp” Peter
“I liked being a nurse and bandaging up the boys. The boys were quiet” Esme
“I like smelling the soap. I liked it but some of my friends thought it was horrible!”
Sophie
“The bedpan was funny!” Isaac
We would all like to go to the museum in London now!

ATTENDANCE
On reviewing the children’s attendance it is very pleasing to see that
many children have 100% attendance. However, we do still have a
number of children who are arriving late after the register has been
taken. It is very important that children arrive on time. We have a
very full curriculum and lessons start immediately for example in Class
2 handwriting practice takes place every day from 8.55am until 9.05am.
UNAUTHORISED ABSENCE
As it is the time for booking holidays I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that
term time holidays will not be authorised except in exceptional circumstance. When
unauthorised absence is coupled with illness children’s attendance can drop very low which
then affects their attainment.
SCIENCE CLUB
We just wanted to remind you that after school science club will be
taking place on the following dates:
1st February 2017
8th February 2017
22nd February 2017
THE BAPTIST MINISTER WRITES
Messy Church will take place next Friday (3rd February) from
3:30pm at the Baptist Chapel. Everyone is welcome to join us for
games, crafts, stories, songs, worship and a meal. For more
information please contact Barbara Carpenter 01823 490195.
ROAD CLOSURE
Stoke St Gregory Parish Council have informed us that Dark Lane will be closed from
20th February 2017 and is expected to last for 3 days. The road will be closed from
outside Crotchet Rest House, north-eastwards, for a distance of 20 metres.
This will enable Wessex Water to replace a communication pipe relay in this road.
HALF TERM ACTIVITIES
Please check the notice board regularly for events that are taking place during the
half term.
