Next Move - Blackbaud

CUSTOMER REFERENCE:
Next Move
Next Move started as a Family shelter program in 1972 to provide housing and ease people out of homelessness. The
organization has since grown to meet the ever changing needs of their clients. They provide temporary and permanent
housing as well as individual success plans to help prevent homelessness in Sacramento. The organization’s goal is to
keep families together and provide them access to the services needed to become self-reliant.
Our relationship with Blackbaud makes us reliable and accountable, so we are
able to be accountable to the public.
– Joseph Ramos, Community Partnership Coordinator
Next Move was using the same manual processes for years. The Executive Director
saw an opportunity to involve the community through a volunteer program and needed
a formal solution to help manage their growth. An easy to learn program was necessary to help deal with staff turnover and
streamline reporting and communication with the community.
BUSINESS ISSUE
Next Move chose eTapestry because of its reporting capabilities, built in e-mail tools
and excellent customer support. The organization didn’t just want space to store
information, but wanted to make their data work for them. eTapestry had all the
functions needed to be accountable to supporters and actively compete for donations and grants.
REASON FOR PARTNERSHIP
Using eTapestry, Next Move has been able to create a more formal recording process
for monetary and in-kind donations; customize queries for easier reporting; and reach
the community in more purposeful ways with e-newsletters, e-blasts, and thank you letters.
CAPABILITIES GAINED
They’re now able to share in-depth information about how the organization is growing and helping the community through
accurate reports on campaigns and events, strengthening community awareness and support.
“eTapestry allows us to own what we are talking about, and provide evidence that we are doing something. Information is
key and people want to know what our community support looks like.” Joseph Ramos
Increased community support means that Next Move can stay open and continue
serving their clients. Several years ago the organization lost funding for their “Women’s
Refuge” program. Instead of canceling the initiative, they chose to pull from general funds to keep the program in place.
Increased funding means Next Move has the resources to continue and improve programs like “Women’s Refuge.”
MISSION IMPACT
To continue growing support for their mission, Next Move’s focus will remain on awareness and engagement. Their
newsletter e-mail list has grown to over 2,000 since using eTapestry, nearly doubling in the past 5 years. By being present
in the community, they are able to raise more funds, expand their reach, and help more people ease out of homelessness.
