TECHNICAL GUIDE: CA ARCserve® Backup Agent for Lotus Domino CA ARCserve® Backup Agent for Lotus Domino supports Lotus Domino server versions 7.0, 8.0 and 8.5, including the backup and recovery of the Lotus Domino Attachment and Object service (DAOS) of IBM’s Lotus Domino 8.5. Lotus Domino 32 bit and 64 bit Windows server platforms are also supported. The Lotus Domino DAOS feature helps minimize redundant file attachments by utilizing a separate repository on the Lotus Domino server for attachments. With DAOS enabled, disk space usage is substantially reduced as Lotus Domino does not save a separate copy of the attachment. Instead, it saves a reference to each attached file and refers to the same file from multiple documents in one or more databases on the same server. CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino provides you with the ability to recover your Lotus Domino server quickly and efficiently in the event of any disaster using the disaster recovery option. CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino supports backup of all Lotus Domino DAOS supporting files to enable a thorough recovery of the data. The agent also supports non-DAOS enabled Lotus Domino environments to efficiently backup and restore Lotus Domino data. The CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino lets you select and submit backup and restore jobs with ease. You can backup and restore a complete Lotus Domino server or individual objects (database files and trans-action log files) within the Lotus Domino server. OVERVIEW BENEFITS The CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino provides services that allow the CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino to back up and restore databases. It also enables you to select and restore the Lotus Domino DAOS folder if you have the DAOS folder on a separate disk from the main Lotus Notes database. CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Lotus Domino lets you select an incremental or a differential backup method and schedule repeating jobs. It provides the capability to restore databases and transaction log files to either their original location or to an alternate location. When you select a Lotus Domino server to back up data, you will not see the DAOS objects in the Source tab. However, the CA ARCserve Backup Agent backs up the referenced DAOS objects with the databases that contain the corresponding references. Enables you to backup any online or offline Lotus Domino database. When you use online backup, you do not have to replicate the database, and do not have to stop the Lotus Domino server. Reduces storage costs as only one copy of an attachment is stored. Lets you restore all or selected database files (NSF, NTF) and the referenced DAOS object files with ease. Yes, you can enable the debug option and set the corresponding parameter values using the Registry Editor. When you enable the debug option, the program will generate trace files. The trace file is named as [email protected], where server name is the name of the selected Lotus Domino server. Q: A: Can I expand the DAOS object folder to view the contents of the folder? No, you cannot expand the DAOS objects folder, because when there is a large number of NLO files, expanding the folder to view all of the files affects the performance of CA ARCserve Backup. You cannot restore a specific NLO file, because the NLO file name is just an ID, which does not help you know the contents of the file.
