WHEN CAN MY 8TH GRADER PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETICS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL???
 Not until the middle school athletic seasons are complete – May 18th.
 EXCEPTION…Cheer & Dance Tryouts usually occur end of March/beginning of April, 8th graders may participate
in tryouts. They must turn in all appropriate paperwork to get a “Permit to Practice Card.”
 In May be checking our Rocky website and our rmathletics.org for info with regards to when informational
meetings for summer activities. Eighth graders may attend informational meetings that occur before May 18th.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IN ORDER FOR MY 8TH GRADER TO PARTICIPATE IN A FALL SPORT, OR ANY SPORT??

WHEN DO I NEED TO TURN IN FALL SPORTS PAPERWORK??
 Paperwork for fall sports is not needed until the athletic office opens on July 27th! No yellow cards will be
issued for the fall before this date (except for those trying out for Dance Team/Cheer). Paperwork can be
brought into the Athletic Office (located in the Main Office). Official day of practice/tryouts is August 14th!! Do
not wait until August 14 to bring in paperwork as incomplete paperwork will delay participation. Also, do not
give coaches the athletic paperwork.

“PERMIT TO PRACTICE” CARD IS ISSUED.
Athletic yellow “permit to practice” cards for all fall sports will not be issued until July 27th once all 2017-2018
athletic paperwork has been completed AND proof of payment has been produced (receipt or copy of receipt).
This will be enforced for all sports, as well as cut sports (of which athletic fee will be returned).
WHAT IS A “PERMIT TO PRACTICE CARD (AKA YELLOW CARD)? WHY DOES MY STUDENT NEED IT?
A “permit to practice” card is given when all necessary paperwork (find list of forms at:
https://rmh.psdschools.org/athletics/participation-fees ) has been completed, proof of payment is provided,
and turned into the Athletic Secretary at Rocky – Ms. Rosalyn Seale. She checks that all paperwork is complete,
checks on athletes eligibility, etc… If everything is in good order she issues a “permit to practice (aka yellow
card)” to the athlete.
The athlete then takes the “card” to the head coach. This hand off indicates to the coach that athlete has
completed all the necessary steps to be an eligible athlete for the sport! This card must be turned in before
athlete participates in given sport and is required by August 14.
Yellow cards are only issued for the current season (i.e. – no yellow cards will be issued for any winter or spring
sports in August). Winter yellow cards will be issued to student after 1st quarter grades are issued, spring yellow
cards will be issued once first semester grades are issued.
HOW MUCH DOES A SPORT COST?
As of today, 4/22/17, athletic fees*** are as follows:
I. PSD School‐Based (non‐charter) & Online Academy Students (Per Sport Per Year):
High School: 110.00
Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse: $175.00 in addition to $110.00 athletic fee
Unified Sports (HS): $55.00
Pay-to-Play Sports: Determined annually. Not to exceed actual cost to operate program.
Annual Family Maximum: TBD
II.
Home‐Based, Charter & Private School Students:
High School: $165.00
Boys’ and Girls’ Lacrosse: $175.00 in addition to $165.00 athletic fee
Unified Sports: $82.00
No Family Maximum
