We are leaseholders and freeholders of Southwark ex-local authority properties and our aim
is to ensure that Southwark Council, its managing agent(s) and partners, provide
leaseholders with a better service and better value for money. We raise awareness amongst
leaseholders as to how to oppose costly and unnecessary service charges and bills for major
works. As well as an independent professional body for leaseholders and freeholders of
Southwark, LAS is dedicated to improving services performance and professionalism.
What LAS does and why is it important:

Stands for the right of Leaseholders:
We are in a new major works investment cycle, i.e. refurbishment of properties, some
leaseholders have already received bills for upwards of £20k. This is outrageous and
sometimes due to the procurement and contract management processes established
by Southwark Council. Leaseholders and their families are the ones that suffer. LAS
acts as the leaseholders voice trying to seek redress and a fair price for decent quality
work.

Lobby:
LAS attempts to influence decisions made by officials in government and local
government, in trying to influence legislation on behalf of leaseholders and
freeholders of Southwark. LAS proactively contacts the bodies therein and also takes
part in relevant consultations.

Legal advice, review and assistance:
LAS is not able to give you legal advice. We are not trained to do so and do not yet
have the funds to offer our own service. However; we have put together some
suggestions for organisations which may be able to offer you free legal advice.
LAS is in the process of investing in an advice centre for ex local authority
leaseholders and freeholders. Drop-in and appointment sessions will be available.

What Membership is available?

LAS membership is available to those who own an ex local authority property in
Southwark.

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION AND GUARANTEE FORM
LAS2000 has been formed as a company limited by guarantee. The Directors and Board are
drawn from the current members. Each member will be one of the members or “guarantors”
of the Company. As a member you will be potentially liable to make a maximum contribution
of £1 (one pound) should the company become insolvent. Should you wish to inspect the
Memorandum and Articles of Association please contact the Secretary of LAS2000

I, the undersigned, hereby apply for admission as a member of LAS2000 (“the Company”).
I agree to be bound by the Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Company and by
such rules or bye-laws as may be made by the Board and/or Executive Committee of the
Company from time to time.
I acknowledge that as a member of the Company I may incur liability to contribute to the
assets of the Company in the event of its being wound up but that the amount which I may
be required to contribute shall not exceed £1.

Members' personal contacts will be treated as confidential. With members' permission,
contacts may be shared amongst membership or made public via the website.
LAS2000 has a full Data Protection Policy please ask the membership Secretary if you need
a copy or look at our web site.
The information you provide will not be disclosed, sold or rented to any third party. The email
you provide is the address that will be used for contacting you directly regarding your
membership or other internal business. Your email will not be made available to 3rd parties
without your consent.
