HICKSVILLE HIGHLIGHTS FOR SEPTEMBER 2015
Defiance County Senior Services will be closed Monday, September 7th, 2015 in celebration of Labor Day!
The Hicksville Center will re-open Tuesday, September 8th, 2015 at 8:00 am.
Due to the Labor Day Holiday, September’s Wal-Mart shopping date is Monday, September 14th, 2015
at 10:00 am. Call for a FREE ride to Defiance.
Call for your appointment NOW! The Toe Nail Clinic will be Wednesday, October 7th at the
Hicksville center. Appointments start at 12:30 pm with a $10.00 fee payable to the nurse at
the time of service. Keep your feet healthy!

SEPTEMBER 1ST & 8TH AT 10:00 AM.
Want to learn to play or just hone your skills? Come on down and learn at a
leisurely pace. Our first two sessions will cover “turn-up” Euchre.
NEW – “LUNCH AND LEARN” AT THE HICKSVILLE CENTER
Defiance County Senior Services at Hicksville will be hosting a monthly “Lunch and Learn” series beginning
on Thursday, September 3rd, 2015. A variety of topics for the series have been selected from senior’s input
including winter heating and summer cooling assistance, Med D checkups, and large print publications and services
of the Johnson Memorial Library.
The first speaker will be Diane Collins, Hicksville Village Clerk/Treasurer. Diane will speak at 11:00 am on
Hicksville Village finances and will also take questions regarding Hicksville’s Farmer’s Market and water/sewer
billing in the Village.
The “Lunch and Learn” program will be held on the first Thursday of the month at the Hicksville Senior
Center, 708 East High Street, Hicksville. Speakers will begin their presentation at 11:00 am and lunch will be
served at 12:00 noon. If you are interested in attending, please call Linda McMahon at 419.542.5004 (at least a
day in advance) for reserved seating, transportation, and lunch. While the programs will be free of charge, there is
a suggested donation of $3.00 for lunch.
Anyone interested in making a presentation at a future “Lunch and Learn” session should also contact
Linda McMahon at the Hicksville center for available dates.
The October “Lunch and Learn” date will be Thursday, October 1 st. The Speaker and lunch menu will be
announced.

We’ll be flinging into fall on Wednesday, September 9 th with an evening
meal at 5:00 pm. Roast pork will be our featured entrée. Entertainment will begin at
6:00 pm with a special presentation by the Five Star Dance Studio. At 7:00 pm, we’ll
have a BINGO EXTRAVAGANZA!. Suggested donation for meal and entertainment
will be $5 for those 60 years and older and $10 for non-seniors. Advance tickets
required by Tuesday, September 1st. Join us for an evening of great fun, laughs, and
a great meal at the Defiance County Fairgrounds Multi-Purpose Building.
Transportation is available by calling Linda at 419.542.5004. Due to this event, the
Hicksville center will close after lunch and re-open Thursday, September 10th at 8:00
am.
PLEASE NOTE – BINGO DATES!
Yes, BINGO is still on the schedule at the Hicksville center! We’ll have
White Elephant BINGO on Tuesday, September 8th and our September DOUBLE
BINGO days will be Thursday, September 17 th and Tuesday, September 22nd.
BINGO is also scheduled on other dates throughout the month on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. Make your lunch reservations now for these fun days!

Did you remember to recertify for the 2015-2016 food box program year?
If not, you may be unable to pick up a box on Wednesday, September 23 rd between
the hours of 1:00 – 2:30 pm. Please be sure your paperwork is in well in advance of
this date but no later than Tuesday, September 8 th in order that you don’t miss a
month of food. If you have program questions or would like to sign up, please call
