AmeriCorps Recovery YCC Field Team LEADER Position Description Description: Are you ready to LEAD others? Want to work outside and make a real difference? Then join us for a Summer like NO OTHER! In this position you will lead a special 5‐ member team that travels to different parks taking care of a variety of special tasks from preservation work to special events, from Trail maintenance to environmental conservation; from demolition to building. You will see firsthand the results of your hard work! This position offers a little bit of everything! Primary Duties:  Provide outdoor recreation and education opportunities to improve the wellness of our communities.  Lead 4 Field Team members in performing a variety of special project work including, among other activities: Natural resource management activities Facility repair and maintenance Grounds and recreational area care Green Space Conservation activities/ tree planting Trail building and maintenance Special events Preservation of historic places, Archeological excavation, Historical research  Coordinate activities of Team with Program Manager and Park Administrators  Oversee safe completion of team assignments  Make certain members receive proper instruction and are meaningfully engaged in activity  Drives program van transporting members to work sites from central park area One Kent Team One Sussex Team.  3 New Castle Teams  Completes Team reports  Assists in scheduling of team activities AmeriCorps Recovery YCC Field Team LEADER Position Description Page 2 Time Commitment: 6 month HT: 900 hours June – November 2009 Start and end dates can be flexible Requirements:  Able to motivate, supervise and lead team members in service activities  Very personable  Flexible and adapts easily in changing work environment  Hard workers, responsible, reliable  Not afraid of physical outdoor work, using their hands and sweating to see a project completed.  Able and willing to learn new skills  Participants who want to learn about themselves and the environment  Aged 17 – 26 at the start of the program.  US Citizens or Permanent residents of the United States  Clear driving record  Desire to help provide outdoor recreation and education opportunities.  Relates well with people: able to create team atmosphere  Able to perform outdoor physical activities and stand or walk for long periods.  Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.  Ability to operate hand and power tools, and gas powered equipment: mowers, blowers, chainsaws, trimmers, clippers with training.  Must attend equipment training and perform work in keeping with established Maintenance Techniques.  Attends training and performs duties in compliance with Division and Park Customer Service Guidelines and Safety Guidelines.
