ASSISTANT BOROUGH TEAM ORGANISER – LONDON YOUTH GAMES Part-time volunteering opportunity with Richmond Sports Development Team JOB PROFILE Role Title Assistant Borough Team Organiser – London Youth Games Directorate Education, Children’s and Cultural Services Team Sports and Fitness Services Reports to Jennie Platt, Sports Development Officer Agreement 4.5 month volunteer agreement (1 March -15 July 2011) Hours Approximately 16 hours per week, flexible and negotiable with Richmond Sports Development Team. Weekend working during June and July. Salary Scale 1A, £14,697 - £14,940 (pro rata) CONTEXT The London Youth Games is the largest sports event in Europe and offers competitive sporting opportunities for young people in the capital. The Games involves all 32 London boroughs and the City of London and 26 National Governing Bodies. The Games are free and open to all young people, aged between 7 and 17, living in or going to school in London. In 2010 over 50,000 participants began the journey to represent their local borough in one of 60 competitions across 30 sports. Team Richmond have been involved in the Games since it started in 1977 as part of the Queens Jubilee. 2009 and 2010 have seen Richmond achieve fourth place, the boroughs greatest achievements. Each year almost 400 young people from Richmond represent the borough in events ranging from Archery to Weightlifting. Richmond Council is continually reviewing its structures and ways or working in order to provide the best services possible for residents, in the most efficient way. As a result the key tasks in any job may be varied and the post holder will be expected to take on such variations consistent with the level of responsibility of the post. PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIES To assist the Sports Development Officer for the London Youth Games 2011. Main areas include the preparation phase, actual events and post Games presentation evening. Job content is listed below, in order of importance: 1. To establish relationships with team managers and support development of their sports 2. To raise the awareness of the London Youth Games 2011 in schools, clubs and in the wider community 3. To collate 2011 applicant details on the Team Richmond database and offer support during team entry closing dates in May 4. To assist in the organisation of and attend Team Richmond trials and to attend primary school festivals during the volunteer period: girls football festival, league finals and swimming galas 5. To attend relevant meetings with the London Youth Games, Limelight Sports and the Richmond School Sport Partnership 6. To keep participants and parents informed of selections and travel arrangements 7. To assist with collecting and organising equipment for certain events 8. To link with the ‘Young Gamesforce Officer’ at London Youth Games 9. To help to source volunteers to assist Team Richmond on event days 10. To attend preliminary events in June and the Mini Games competition on Thursday 30 June and the Main weekend on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July at Crystal Palace 11. To assist in the preparation for the presentation evening post Games 12. To perform any other duties as may be reasonably required which are appropriate with the post.
