Summer Internship Play Pals: Level II Position Description Department: Reports to: Purpose: Family Museum Learning Experiences & Environments Volunteer/Play Pal Coordinator Inspire, connect, and strengthen our community by enriching the lives of our children today and expanding their capacity to shape their future. Engage families, caregivers, and teachers with children eight years and under in active play and learning experiences and environments that spark their curiosity, explore their interests, foster their potential and nourish a sense of belonging. Supervision will consist of consultation rather than day-to-day direct supervision. Key Responsibilities: 1. Continue responsibilities from Play Pals: Level I Internship by: - helping families use the exhibits (sharing ideas and objects to further exploration). - staffing the Art Studio and the ThinkShop. - staffing the Great Hallway with craft activities or projects/items too detailed for use on the general exhibit floor. - modeling correct conduct in the museum and proper use of materials. -participation and leadership, as needed, in staff planning and meetings. 2. Development of Educational lesson plans and activities based on the Iowa Early Learning Standards. 3. Provide support to the Guest Services team and our guests in set and reset of exhibit props. 4. Smile and have fun! Play and learn with our guests and make their day great. 5. Know and enforce the safety standards and policies of the Museum. 6. Other related duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: 1. Experience: Requires the successful completion of a Play Pals: Level I Internship. 2. Attitude: Must demonstrate a desire to further personal learning experiences, and a willingness to take on additional responsibility within the Family Museum. 3. Interpersonal Skills: Must possess excellent communication skills, be patient and persuasive in dealing with children and be able to communicate special problems and problem-solving ideas to museum staff. Must be outgoing, flexible, and comfortable approaching and engaging with families. 4. Analytical Ability: Routine and non-recurring problem solving skills are required. 5. Working Conditions: Experiences may take place in the exhibit galleries, the Great Hall, and outdoor courtyard. Time Requirements: Summer Internship: May through August Level 2 Interns will be compensated $9.55 per hour. Internships available: -Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm (40 hours/week) -Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-2:30pm (30 hours/week) -Monday thru Friday, 11:30am-5:30pm (30 hours/week) -Wednesday thru Friday Noon-5:30pm, Saturday 9am-5:30pm (24.5 hours/week) -Saturday 9am-5:30pm and Sunday Noon-5:30pm (13.5 hours/week) - Saturday 9am-5:30pm, Sunday Noon-5:30pm, Monday 5:00-8:30pm (17 hours/week) To Apply: Send cover letter, resume, reference letter, and application to Stephanie DeLacy, Volunteer/Play Pal Coordinator.
