Bygholm has 700 years of proud tradition.
The former manor and castle Bygholm in Horsens has since the construction in 1312
played many interesting roles in the history of Denmark.
The oldest Bygholm Castle was a victorious manifestation of King Erik Menved after the
defeat of the proud, independent and defiant peasants from Jutland. The reason for the
Danish king's desire for absolute power in the eternal competition against the growing
nobelsmen and church.
Right from the establishment of the palace it belonged to the principal centers of power
together with such as, Aalborghus, Riberhus and Koldinghus.
Bygholm was in the next century, setting for the eternal struggles between kings and
nobles, and the foreign counts and princely houses kept borrowing the Danish king
money to wage war against the swedish and the north Germans.
The castle comes into a prolonged period of decay through the late 1500's until 1775,
when it comes to private ownership of Lars De Thygeson, who demolish and rebuilds the
main building as it stands today.
Horsens Municipality takes over the castle and its park of 1600 acres in 1917 and it is
converted into a hotel in the beginning of 1900.
The hotel has through the ages been lovingly restored and was in 1989 taken over by
Scandic Hotels, which today is running the hotel. Scandic Hotels are working closely with
the planning agency reconditioned Bygholm, so it presents itself today as a first class
hotel with a total of 142 modern rooms with a 274 beds in all. All rooms have private
bathroom, color TV, telephone and are equipped with quality furniture after Scandic
International and very familiar concept.
The hotel, with its large capacity is ideal for conferences, courses, meetings and parties.
The hotel has restaurant, bar, sauna, billliard, fitness room, solarium and playroom.

Bygholm har 700 års stolte traditioner.
Det tidligere herresæde og slot Bygholm i Horsens har siden opførelsen i 1312 spillet
mange spændende og væsentlige roller i Danmarkshistorien.
Det ældste Bygholm Slot var en sejrs-manifestation for Kong Erik Menved efter sejren
over de stolte, selvstændige og opsætlige jyske bønder. Baggrunden var den danske
konges ønske om absolut magt i den evige konkurrence mod den voksende adel og
kirke.
Lige fra etableringen hørte slottet til de betydeligste magtcentre sammen med bla.
Aalborghus, Riberhus og Koldinghus.
Bygholm blev i de kommende århundreder ramme om de evige kampe mellem konger
og adelen, samt de udenlandske grever og fyrstehuse, som bestandigt lånte de
danske konger penge til at føre krig mod svenskerne og nordtyskerne.
Slottet kommer ind i en længere forfaldsperiode gennem slutningen af 1500-tallet og
frem til 1775, hvor det kommer i privateje af Lars De Thygeson, som nedriver og
genopbygger hovedbygningen som den står i dag.
Horsens kommune overtager i 1917 slottet med tilhørende park på 1600 tønder land
og det bliver i begyndelsen af 1900-tallet omdannet til hotel.
Hotellet er gennem tiderne blevet nænsomt restaureret og blev i 1989 overtaget af
Scandic Hotels, der i dag har driften af hotellet. Scandic Hotels har i tæt samarbejde
med planstyrelsen istandsat Bygholm så det i dag fremstår som 1. klasses hotel med
i alt 142 moderne værelser med 274 senge. Alle værelser har privat bad og toilet,
farve-tv, telefon og er udstyret med kvalitetsmøbler efter Scandics internationale og
meget velkendte koncept.
Hotellet er med sin store kapacitet ideel til kongresser, kurser, møder og selskaber.
