Road Safety Education Resource
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Physical and Health
Education Association have developed the Ontario Road Safety Education
resource which is now available to teachers, injury prevention practitioners and
community leaders. This revolutionary educational tool is dedicated to supporting
the health and well being of Ontario’s children and youth.
Four resource packages have been developed to target primary, junior,
intermediate, and senior students, all of which include valuable divisional level
information, cross curricular lesson plans, and a community engagement toolkit.
The Ontario Road Safety Education resource packages can now be viewed
online at www.ontarioroadsafety.ca
Ontario Road Safety Annual Reports
The Ontario Road Safety Annual Report (ORSAR) is produced by the Ministry of
Transportation to show the current state of road safety in Ontario for each
respective year. Statistics are presented on fatalities, injuries and property
damage collisions. Other information includes the types of vehicles involved in
collisions, where collisions occurred, and collision data.
ORSAR details can be found on the Ministry of Transportation’s website, and are
available from the year 1993 forward.

Social Cost of Motor Vehicle Collision Study
Understanding the social costs of motor vehicle collisions helps government and
private sector officials find ways to reduce or even prevent injuries and property
damage that may result from a crash.
In 2007, a study was commissioned by the Ontario Ministries of Transportation
and Health Promotion, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and
Transport Canada to determine the social costs of motor vehicle collisions for
all13 Canadian jurisdictions. This study examined both direct and indirect costs
which in Ontario, are estimated to be $17.9 billion annually.
Details of the report can be viewed on the Ministry of Transportation’s website at
