A
free talk to assist coaches and trainers to keep their players/athletes playing and
competing, not on the bench, will be held in the West End Physiotherapy Clinic,
Main Street Ballincollig on Tuesday evening the 24th of February at 7pm.
Presenter:
The talk will be given by Neil Sheehan, Chartered Physiotherapist with a Master’s Degree in
Sports and Exercise Medicine. Neil has over 20 years experience of working in the area of
injury care and prevention. He also has over 30 years’ experience of coaching gymnasts to
international and world level. Neil was appointed Adviser on sports therapy to the
International body, The Federation of Holistic Therapies UK and Ireland and he is also
advisor on athlete care to Gymnastics Ireland.

Coaches want their team fit and healthy so that they can train and compete at their best.
Having players/athletes injured or unwell and sitting out of training or missing that
important game or event can be very frustrating for both the coaching staff and the
players/athletes.
Is there any way to cut down or avoid having your players out of action? Yes there is.
Research:
Current research has looked at the instances of injuries among players and a number of
possible causes have been identified. During this free talk Neil will discuss the most up-todate information of injury prevention, tips for effective training as well as highlighting the
principles of smart training.
Q&A’s
Following the talk which will last approximately 1 hour, refreshments will be available and
there will be a question and answer session where coaches and trainers will have an
opportunity to ask Neil questions on any training/injury concern that they may have.
Booking your place
Places are limited for the talk and will be given on a first come first served basis. Clubs may
send two delegates to attend and you are asked to reply with the names of those attending
