Charity Report:
Sierra Leone: Alex said there would be a five minute video available shortly on the website
showing a brief summary of what had happened during the visit. The South African football
team were currently using the coach
Blue Father Christmas Charity Run – Paul Lake was due to attend the meeting but was
double booked so Alex read out the following mail to the meeting and asked for any
interested branches/individuals to let him have their names after the meeting:
Dear All
Now that we have decided which charities we are to partner with, my role is to head up our fundraising
activities as part of the City Giving Project. One of the main events is going to be the Manchester City Santa
Dash – sponsored by Optimum.
This Fun Run is to take place on Sunday the 5th of December and will consist of an initial Kids run (with an Adult
running if requested) inside the stadium grounds and finishing in the Family Stand where a goody bag will
await them as they receive their medals. The Adults can then start their race whilst the kids/other parent or
grandparent(s) have the option of enjoying the activities provided by CITC on the concourse or the events in City
Square. The run is approximately 3km starting in City Square and participants can run, jog, walk or even dance
their way around the route which will include closing down the nearside carriageway of Alan Turing Way
before finishing back in the square.
As the eternal optimist, I have ordered 3000 SKY BLUE adult sized Santa suits and 500 children’s and these will
be made available as part of a pack of which fans, runners and our wider community can apply for, which will
soon be advertised when marketing sends out the official announcement on the website etc.
As an add on, I have approached the Guinness Book of Records to come and assess whether we will in fact be
smashing all existing records of people wearing Sky Blue Santa suits in one place. Seeing as Liverpool currently
hold the record for Santa’s in one place at last year’s race (3,921) and this year, with more than 5,000 entries
taken before the race, their organisers are hoping to top the record once more – the gauntlet is down! I know,
as a City fan myself, we all like a challenge and their race has built up over the last 5 years ( I think) but with all
of your help, the hope is that we can make it an amazing day and who knows what we could achieve!
As I said, when we announce the Manchester City Santa Dash officially, all of the questions that fans and
participants alike will have, can be answered at that time, but if you could prime as many fans as possible as to
the event – then we can all hopefully make it an amazing spectacle, have a good laugh, and raise lots of money
– all of which will be going to our nominated charities.
Thanks as always for all of your help
Kind regards
Lakey
