thoughts on e-Bug. We are really excited
to share what we’ve been working on in
the past few months – for you and your
students. Keep reading and find out!
If you think microbes – think e-Bug.

TWO new classroom lesson plans
We’ve listened to your needs and developed 2 new lesson plans –
one for junior and one for senior schools.
Fun on the Farm
Age Group: 9 – 11 year olds
Students learn about
microbes on the farm and
what they should do to
protect themselves from any
potential microbial hazards
through a fun presentation,
a social networking exercise
and a ‘learn as you play’ board game. This resource
has been developed in collaboration with Farming
and Countryside education (FACE).
STIs - Chlamydia
Age Group: 12 – 18 year olds
We have teamed up with
Coventry University to develop
this STI lesson plan focussing on
Chlamydia. The lesson comes with
a series of web based activities
and are designed to provide
young people with the knowledge
to make informed decisions
regarding their sexual health and
the Chlamydia infection.

Calling all JUNIOR schools!
Calling all SENIOR schools!
To celebrate European Antibiotic Awareness
Day we are running our exciting annual
competition and this year it is aimed at
SENIOR SCHOOL students (12-15 year olds).
Competition Aim: To educate young people
of the importance of prudent antibiotic
use and antibiotic resistance through the
medium of film
e-Bug and the Health Protection Agency have
teamed up with Schools Council UK to set a junior
school hand hygiene challenge and we need your
help! On Global Handwashing Day (15th October)
2012, schools all across the UK will be taking part
in a fun hand washing lesson plan at the same
time to demonstrate the importance of good hand
hygiene - and have a lot of fun doing it!
What you have to do: Students will design
a two minute film about why young
people should be careful about overusing
antibiotics - easy, right!
The Prize: Winning students will see their
film idea professionally developed for the
e-Bug website and will also receive a goody
bag of prizes. The e-Bug science show will
also visit their school and carry out the fun
and educational interactive science show
for the entire class.
For more information and to see previous
winners visit our website at www.e-bug.eu
How do I take part?
Visit the teacher pages of the e-Bug website to
register your interest and leave the rest up to us!
We’ll contact you in June with the lesson plan and
lots more information.
Launch of the teachers questionnaire
Here’s your chance to have your say about what you would like to see in e-Bug and what you would like
changed. Complete the questionnaire online (www.e-bug.eu and click on the teacher link) and we’ll send you
a CD with both e-Bug lesson plan packs – even the new activities. Go on, what’s stopping you? It only takes 3
minutes and we’ll let you know what we find out.
