Outcomes
Outcomesexpresstheresultsthatyourprojectaimstoachieveifimplementedasintended.
Outcomesanswerthequestion:“Whatdifferencewilltheprojectmake?”Thesedifferencesare
oftenexpressedintermsofchangesinlearning,actionorconditionsofindividuals,families,
households,organizations,orsystems.Whenidentifyingoutcomes,considertheentirescopeofthe
project,notjusttheportionfundedbytheEndowment.NoteaswellthatOpportunityGrantsare
typicallyoneyearindurationsooutcomesshouldreflectwhattheprojectseekstoaccomplishin
thattimeframe.
OutcomeIndicators
Anindicatoristhequantitativeorqualitativemeasure(s)thattellsyouwhetheryouhave
accomplishedyouroutcome.Indicatorsaremeasurableandobservableandanswerthequestion:
Howwillweknowit?Somefindithelpfultothinkaboutindicatorsasthe“evidence”thatoutcomes
areorarenotbeingachieved.Outcomesmayhavemorethanoneindicator.Whereappropriate
andpossible,youshouldalsoidentifynumerictargetforyourindicator(s).Itisimportantto
considerfeasibilityandcostofdatacollectionwhendecidingonindicators—somedesirable
indicatordatamaysimplybeunrealistictocollect.

 Outcome:Increasethecapacityofmedicalproviderstoconductsocial/emotional
screeningsofyoungchildren
 OutcomeIndicator(s):
