TONIGHT’S MATCHUP VS. BEECH GROVE
• Tonight’s game is the 51st meeting all-time
between Roncalli and Beech Grove and the
second in the last six days. The Rebels lead
the all-time series 33-17.
• Roncalli has faced Beech Grove more than
any other public school. Manual (40 times) is
the only other public school that Roncalli has
played at least 40 times. The two programs
have played every season since the 1991-92
season.
• The Rebels have won 11 straight games
over the Hornets and six straight at “The
Woodshed.”
• Last Friday, the Rebels won 61-60 at Beech
Grove. Roncalli led by as much as 10 points
(29-19) in the first half. Beech Grove rallied
to tie the game at 57-57 with 3:11 left. After
the Hornets scored to take the lead with 26
seconds left, Collin Sonderman’s tip-in with
4.8 seconds left proved to be the game-winner.
• Beech Grove’s last win at “The Woodshed”
was a 40-39 victory on January 9, 2004.
• The Rebels won the only Marion County
Tournament meeting between the two programs. Roncalli posted a 44-43 win at Beech
Grove in the first round of the 2007 tournament.
• The Hornets are in the quarterfinal round
of the Marion County Tournament for the
first time since 2001.

GAME 12 RHS VS. BEECH GROVE - MCT QTRS * JAN. 11, 2017
LAST GAME RECAP - AT PERRY MERIDIAN 1/10
• The Rebels won their sixth straight game with a 69-61 victory at Perry Meridian last night
in the opening round of the Marion County Tournament.
• The first half featured six ties and six lead changes. The Rebels trailed 16-14 after one
quarter, but led 36-29 at the half. An 11-0 Roncalli run in the second quarter propelled the
Rebels into the lead.
• Perry Meridian fought back to tie the game at 39-39 with 6:00 left in the third period.
The Rebels scored eight of the next 10 points to grab the lead for good. The Rebels led 49-45
after three quarters and outscored the Falcons 20-16 in the final quarter. Roncalli scored 12
of its 20 fourth-quarter points from the foul line.
• Kellen Schreiber paced the Rebels with 19 points off the bench. He exploded for 13 points
in the second quarter. Collin Sonderman added 14 points and Jack Hegwood chipped in 10
points. For Hegwood, the game marked his second double-figure scoring game of his career.
Kegan Owen contributed a career-best eight points off the bench.
• The Rebels shot a season-best .800 (20-for-25) from the line and outscored the Falcons by
16 from the foul line. The 20 made free throws is a Roncalli season-high.
NOTES
• Kellen Schreiber’s 19 points off the bench were the most by a Rebel reserve since Max
Clifford scored 28 against Scecina Memorial on December 16, 2014.

RONCALLI IN “THE WOODSHED”
The Rebels play their home games in an 1,100-seat gym known as “The Woodshed.” The gym
hosted its first game in November of 1962, when the school was known as Bishop Chartrand High
School. In the fall of 1969, John F. Kennedy Memorial High School merged with Bishop Chartrand to form Roncalli High School, whose teams would be known as the Rebels. The program’s
first home win as the Rebels was a 94-39 victory of the Latin School on December 6, 1969. Over
the years, the gym became known as “The Woodshed” due to the cozy and intense atmosphere.
The Rebels own an all-time home record of 253-161 (.611) and are 74-15 (.831) at “The
Woodshed” since the start of the 2006-07 season. In 14 seasons under head coach Michael Wantz, the Rebels are 93-27 (.775) at home. The Rebels’ longest home winning
streak is a 14-game streak that ran from February 23, 2006 through February 1, 2008.
