STATEMENT FROM GREAT HARWOOD ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB With reference to printed literature currently being distributed by the prospective Conservative Party
candidate for the forthcoming local election in the Great Harwood Overton ward, Great Harwood Rovers
would like to make the following points.
1. The Club's name is Great Harwood Rovers Football Club. The club does not go by any other name,
nickname or alias.
2. Great Harwood Rovers Football Club are an F.A. Community Level Charter Standard Club and as such all
our officials and coaches MUST maintain valid Criminal Record Checks and FA Safeguarding Children
qualifications. No football related activity is allowed to take place unsupervised and can only take place
with at least one official with the above qualifications being in attendance.
3. Any reference to "predators" is quite simply scaremongering. When official football activity organised by
Great Harwood Rovers Football Club is taking place all measures and precautions as described above will
be in place as we do at all venues. The location of our new facility does not change this and does not
present any more of a hazard then anywhere else in our town or surrounding districts.
4. Great Harwood Rovers Football Club have been advised that traffic calming measures and road layout
amendments will be implemented as part of the Scheme to improve road safety. The safety of our officials
and players is paramount.
5. Our new pitches are to be constructed by an approved contractor in accordance with Sport England
specifications including new drainage systems. The completed pitches will be inspected on behalf of Sport
England to ensure they meet all relevant criteria before they are made available for use by Great Harwood
Rovers Football Club. A minimum term maintenance programme will also be put in place to ensure the
playing surface is kept to the highest standards.
6. Great Harwood Rovers Football Club has been working tirelessly for over 15 years to achieve its goal of
providing better facilities for the footballers of Great Harwood and the surrounding districts. In all that
time not one private individual or organisation has approached the club with specific proposals or financial
offers that would allow the development of facilities at our current site at Lyndon House.
7. Great Harwood Rovers Football Club main objective is to provide the best facilities possible for our
volunteer officials, our players and the wider community. The new facility will be made available to local
schools and other voluntary organisations to ensure it becomes a genuine local community facility to be
used by as many people in the area as possible."
