Arrival
Gavilan Peak begins school at 8:15am. The first
bell rings at 7:55, and the tardy bell rings at
8:15. Kindergarten teachers will be on duty each
morning to supervise from 7:55-8:15. Students
that arrive after that time will need to enter the
school through the office. Students may not be
on campus prior to 7:55a.m. unless they attend
Global Explorations. It is important that your
child is supervised at all times.

Dismissal
Gavilan Peak is dismissed at 3:00pm on a regular
school day. Kindergarten students will be
dismissed at 2:50. Students that are picked up
will be walked out to the Kindergarten gate and
dismissed. Students that attend day care or
who ride the bus will be dismissed by a
different route. Please notify me by folder, email or phone if different individuals will be
picking up your child or if there is a change in
where your child goes after school.

Clothing
Please dress your child comfortably for school, so he/she
can participate in all activities inside and out.
Appropriate footwear needs to be worn so that toes and
ankles are protected. Flip-flops can be unsafe;
therefore, we discourage the students from wearing
them. Please refer to the Gavilan Peak dress code.. Girls
are not allowed to wear spaghetti straps without a
sweater covering shoulders and need to wear shorts
under their dresses. Please keep an extra set of clothes
in your child’s backpack or they can keep it in their cubby
marked with their name in case of an emergency.

Snack
Please send in one healthy snack each day.
The snack should be quick and easy to eat as
our time is very limited. Please always send a
water bottle to school with your child with
their name clearly marked. We do not allow
anything but water in the classroom during
snack time. Our classrooms are NUT FREE. It
is very helpful if your child’s snack is separate
from their lunch.

Parent Information
Behavior calendars/reading logs are in the center of
your child’s folder. Homework will come home on a daily
basis and is found in the left pocket folder. It is
important for you to check your child’s folder nightly for
information. If you ever have any questions, concerns,
or need information, please feel free to email as this is
the best way to get in touch with us during the school
day. Student folders are another way to communicate.
Students need to be responsible for bringing their
folder every day. Folders are checked every morning; so
feel free to drop a note in the pocket.

Library
We will be going as a class to the library once a
week. Please make sure your child comes to school
with his/her library book every Thursday. Your child
will keep their book for one week. If your child
forgets his/her book on library day they will not be
able to check out a new book. Our librarian will be in
contact with you in the case of a lost or damaged
book. Please help your child memorize their student
id number. This number will be used for library,
lunch and computer log in.

Fun Friday
Every Friday is Fun Friday! We work so hard
throughout the week on our Core Curriculum
that we feel our students need to be rewarded
for their hard work including good behavior.
We allow the students to have free choice
activities each Friday such as building blocks,
kitchen, marble works, games, puzzles, Mr.
Potato head, art projects…. that makes it a
FUN FRIDAY!!

Daily Discipline
We use the clip chart color system. Students have the opportunity to move up
and down through the colors. Please check your child’s calendar daily. Calendars
will be located in your child’s folder.
Green - All students begin the day with their clips on green, “Ready to
Learn.” Good choices throughout the day will maintain green. Students will
receive a sticker on their behavior calendar for making good choices. If a child
does make a bad choice, he/she will receive a verbal warning. If the student
continues to make bad choices, the clip will be changed to yellow.
Yellow- If a student clips down to yellow, they will have the opportunity
to move it back to green by making good choices. It is up to them. If a student
remains on yellow, their calendar will be colored yellow.
Red - When a child moves to red this information will be on the daily
calendar. Occasionally, there may be a situation where a child may automatically
move to read; these cases will be dealt with on an individual bases. If problems
are reoccurring or severe, a parent teacher conference may be called, the
students may need to speak to the principal and/or detention may be given.

Reading homework will be sent home on Monday for the
week. Please return the completed homework in your
child’s folder on Friday. Math homework will be sent
home on a daily basis as lessons are completed in class.
It is provided as an extension to the work we are doing
in class. The homework is designed so you can
reinforce, at home, what we are teaching at school.
©Julie Bochese
Please take a couple of minutes to review your child’s
work and discuss concepts with him/her each day. This
will show your child the importance of the work he/she
is doing. We appreciate your support in reinforcing your
child’s learning and teaching him/her responsibility. The
most important part of nightly homework is READING!
Please read 20 minutes each night with your child.
There is a spot on the behavior calendar to record how
many minutes you read nightly.

Field Trips and Volunteers
Each year we plan on at least two fun-filled field
trips! We will let you know the dates, cost and
information as it becomes available.
Volunteers play a very important role at Gavilan Peak,
and we appreciate every one. All volunteers must
take the Deer Valley Volunteer Training class, even
to attend field trips. Please refer to the DVUSD
website for a list of dates and times for training.
We will need volunteers for field trips, class parties,
and weekly small groups.
