NETBALL ACT - COMMERCIAL EVENING COMPETITION RULES 1. TEAM REGISTRATION AND TEAM FEES: Teams must be available to play all time slots. All teams must complete and lodge a team registration form with the Court Supervisor by the date specified. Teams who have not submitted a registration form will not receive any competitions points until their registration form is lodged. Players’ names that do not appear on these forms will not be covered by insurance or be eligible to compete in the final series. It is the team’s responsibility to ensure that all players are included on their team registration form. The team registration fee of $85.00 is payable by the date specified. Players must complete all details and sign the registration form, and may only play with the team in which they are registered. The team registration fee covers a minimum of seven (7) players and a maximum of ten (10) players. Teams wishing to register more than ten (10) players during the competition are required to pay an individual registration fee of $10.00 for each additional player. A player may not play with more than one team in the same division. Only two players from a higher division may play with a team from a lower division on the same night, provided they register and play with both teams during the grading period. Players from a higher division will not be permitted to play with a lower division team they are not already registered with on the same night after the grading period has passed. 2. COURT FEES: Each team is required to pay court fees of $82.00 for each game. This is paid to the Court Supervisor prior to taking the court for each game. Scoresheets for each game will only be issued when both teams’ court fees have been paid. Should any court fees be outstanding, the following process will be followed: Team is informed by Commercial Competitions Coordinator that they will be provided with an invoice from Netball ACT. Payment of the invoice will be required to be made within two weeks Should no payment be received from team after the two week period they will incur an additional $10 fee for each week that they continue to not pay the fee After a four week period, should the team still have not made payment, a deduction of three competition points per week will be enforced until payment is received. 3. RULES: All game rules will be accordance with the AANA rules. Competition rules are as shown in this document. 4. UNIFORMS: We encourage teams to nominate colour for team shirts. Teams are required to wear suitable attire for each game. Players must wear non-marking indoor sports shoes only. Players may wear either netball skirts, shorts, bike pants or tracksuit pants. Jewellery is not permitted for any game, with the exception that wedding rings may be taped. If gloves are worn, all jewellery other than wedding rings must be removed. Medic alert bracelets may be worn at all times however they must be taped. Nails may be long ONLY if approved sports gloves are worn. If no sports gloves are worn, then nails must be cut short. 5. SCORESHEETS: The official result is the score shown on the scoresheet. All players must record their names on the scoresheets. Teams are required to supply one score bench official for their own game. Teams failing to provide a score bench official will forgo the right to query the official score. 6. POSITIONAL PATCHES: Each team is required to wear positional patches. Positional patches may be hired at a cost of $3.00 from the Court Supervisors. 7. GAME TIMES: Game times will be in accordance with those set down in the official competition draw. Netball ACT reserves the right to amend the draw as and when required. Each game will play for 40 minutes, consisting of 4 by 10 minute quarters. A break of one minute shall apply at quarter time, and one minute at half time. The clock will start at the scheduled time for each game, and teams should be prepared to take the court by the scheduled game time. No injury time will be made up, however time is allowed to remove an injured player from the court and make any necessary substitutions or position changes. Time lost due to starting late will not be made up. 8. INCOMPLETE GAMES: If a game cannot be completed due to unforeseeable circumstances the following shall apply: if the game is cancelled prior to half-time the result will be a draw; if a game is cancelled after half-time the result as per the scoresheet will be the final result. 9. FORFEITS: If a team cannot field a minimum of five (5) players, five minutes after the clock starts, that team shall forfeit the match. The umpire will be responsible for calling a forfeit and will notify teams. Teams forfeiting will be required to pay a forfeit fee of $120 and receive no competition points. Should a team forfeit, the following process will be followed: Team provides notice for forfeit, and is informed of forfeit fee ($120) to be paid Team is informed by Commercial Competitions Coordinator that they will be provided with an invoice from Netball ACT. Payment of the invoice will be required to be made within two weeks Should no payment be received from team after the two week period they will incur an additional $10 fee for each week that they continue to not pay the fee After a four week period, should the team still have not made payment, a deduction of three competition points per week will be enforced until payment is received. Teams receiving a forfeit may count the forfeit game towards the required number of matches to qualify players for the final. Teams making the forfeit may not count the game to qualify players for finals. In the event of a forfeit, points for and against will be tallied as nil goals for the team forfeiting and ten goals for the team receiving the forfeit. FINALS ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible to compete in the final series, a player must play a minimum of three games and be registered on the team registration form of the finalist team. If a team plays an unregistered and/or ineligible player then that team will forfeit the game to their opposition. **** Financial teams will not be permitted to compete in the final series. **** 12. FINAL SERIES: Composition of the final series will be determined in each competition dependent on the number of teams and time available. Combined divisions eg Division 1/2, that are to be split for Final Series will be done so at Netball ACT discretion. The format for semi-finals will be 1st v 4th (SF 1) and 2nd v 3rd (SF 2), the winner of SF 1 will play the winner of SF 2 in the Grand Final. When goals scored are even at full time in a final series an additional five minutes each way shall be played, with an interval of one (1) minute at halftime. Teams shall change ends at halftime. Substitutions can be made at both intervals. 13. MIXED COMPETITIONS: All competition rules apply. A maximum of three male players and a minimum of one are permitted on the playing court at any time. One male is allowed in each third of the court at one time, ie, one male as GK or GD, one male as WA, WD, or C, and one male as GA or GS. 14. GRADING: Netball ACT reserves the right to re-grade any team within any competition. 15. PLAYER MISCONDUCT: Except in extreme circumstances, a player will receive one warning from the umpire, and may then be suspended from the game on the second offence. Any decision of the umpire is final. If a player is sent off by the umpire, for the remainder of the game, that player's name will be taken and the player may receive a penalty of one week’s suspension for being sent from the court. This means a suspended player forfeits the right to play in all Netball ACT evening competitions during their suspension period. If warranted, due to the seriousness of the incident, a further suspension period will be imposed by Netball ACT. If a player or Team Contact (captain) refuses to give the name of a player involved in any incident to a Centre Official ( ie Umpire, Court Supervisor, Umpires Development Officer or Netball ACT staff member ) then their team may either (a) have the game awarded to their opposition as a forfeit; and/or (b) be suspended or expelled from the competition. Players sent from the court must sit in, either the area marked as the umpire’s bench or where directed by the umpire, for the length of time indicated by the umpire. This is in accordance with the game rules ie the Official Rules of Netball Australia (Rule 20). If a player refuses to follow an umpire’s direction to sit in the area marked as the umpire’s bench that player will be suspended from all Netball ACT evening competitions for a period determined by Netball ACT. Teams involved in any incident resulting in a player being sent from the court, should lodge a written report with Netball ACT by no later than 5.00pm the next day. A physical fight will constitute an indefinite suspension for the instigator. Repeated suspensions within a particular competition may lead to the expulsion of a player from the competition. Following expulsion from a competition, Netball ACT reserves the right to approve the player for any further competitions. Additional to this, any team may be expelled from the competition following expulsions to individual players from the team. 16. INJURIES: Any injuries occurring during a game must be reported firstly to the centre umpire and then to the Court Supervisors following the game. This will be recorded in the injury book and will need to be signed by the witness and a Court Supervisor. If you intend to lodge a sports injury claim, collect an insurance form, complete it fully and mail the completed form to the insurance company. The claim form needs to be lodged with the insurance company within 30 days of the injury occurring. 17. GENERAL: A Court Supervisor shall be appointed for all competitions and will be in control of the competition. Any disputes should be discussed with the Court Supervisors. Further matters arising will be in consultation with Netball ACT. 18. PREGNANCY: Netball ACT encourages all players who are, or may be, pregnant to consider the welfare of themselves, their unborn child, their fellow players and the game’s officials when making decisions about whether to play or not. We urge all players to obtain appropriate medical and legal advice and remind them that the current insurance policy covers injuries to players (including pregnant ones) but the coverage does not extend to an unborn or subsequently born, child.
