Math Factor Tree Card Game
Goal of the Game:
In this game, the goal is to score more points in your hand by creating and collecting math factor trees.
How to Play:
1. Shuffle the cards. Deal out 5 cards to each player. Place the remaining pile of cards at the head
of the table.
2. Turn over the top two cards. Add those two cards together to create your Product Hand. If the
added total product is not a composite number, draw another card and add that to the Product
Hand. Continue until the Product Hand is a composite number.

Adding these two cards gives you a total Product Hand of 18
3. Decide who is Player One.
4. Player One looks at his/her hand. If they have a card that is a factor of the Product Hand, they
lay that card down beneath the Product hand.
Example: If Player One has a 2, 3, 6, or 9 of any suit (Clubs, Spades, Hearts or Diamonds), they
can lay that card down.
Alternate Rule: If the player does not have an exact factor card, they can add cards in their hand
together to create the factor.
Example:
Ace + 8 = 9
5. If the player cannot lay down a factor of the Product Hand, they draw one card from the deck. If
they still cannot place down a factor of the Product Hand, their turn is over.
6. The next player has a chance to lay down a card (or cards). In order to do so, this player must
have the missing factor that will help create the Product Hand.
Example: If Player One placed down the factor 9 for the Product Hand 18, then the next player
must lay down the factor 2. 9 X 2 = 18.

7. If a new composite number has been created (Example: factor 8 can be broken down again into
the prime numbers 2 and 4), then the game continues until all of the Product Hand has been
reduced completely into it’s Prime Factors.
Example:
8. The last player to lay down a Prime Factor card collects all cards in the Factor Tree. Each card is
worth 1 point. Mark down the points.
9. Repeat steps 1 – 8 for the next round!
