NCFE board directors’ double award win
Two Board Directors from leading awarding organisation, NCFE, have scooped high profile
regional awards.
Terry Hodgkinson CBE DL was announced as Non-Executive Director of the Year at the
2016 Yorkshire and North East Institute of Directors (IoD) Awards, for his role as chairman
of the Board to the education charity NCFE. He has been in post since 2012.
Terry’s career spans over 38 years in business, with executive and non-executive
experience in privately-owned, not-for-profit and government organisations. He was
recognised in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday honours list with a CBE for services to business
and regeneration.
In addition, fellow NCFE Board Director and financial expert, Chris Fleetwood, was named
Non-Executive Director of the Year in the 2016 North East Accountancy Awards.
The North East Accountancy Awards recognises excellence within the fields of finance,
accounting and tax from all industry sectors operating within the region. The Non-Executive
Director of the Year award acknowledges the critical role that non-executive directors play in
the boardroom and in providing a significant contribution to the development and growth of
their organisation.
As well as his position on the NCFE Board, Chris is non-executive director and chairman for
the Audit committee of Northern 3 VCT Plc, chairman of DigitalCity Business and was CEO
of Whessoe plc, a FTSE listed company.
With its HQ in Newcastle, NCFE has experienced a successful period of growth and Terry
and Chris, along with fellow non-executive directors Lucy Armstrong, Angela O’Donoghue,
Nigel Hudson, Michael Robinson and Greg Austin, have played a significant part in the
awarding organisation’s development over the last few years. Terry, Chris and the other
Board members have successfully steered and supported the Executive team in the
acquisition of leading childcare qualification provider CACHE and e-learning business
ForSkills.
Terry Hodgkinson commented: “I’m thrilled to have won this award – it was an honour to be
named Yorkshire and North East Non-Executive Director of the Year in the prestigious IoD
Awards in recognition of my work with NCFE.
“I’m particularly pleased to have won for my work with NCFE, and I’m proud to chair the
Board for an organisation which has such a strong focus on learners and is committed to
providing opportunities for people of all ages to train and develop themselves.”
David Grailey, Chief Executive of NCFE, said: “We are fortunate to have a great Board
made up of highly experienced and respected businesspeople. Their expertise has helped to
drive NCFE forward in a challenging climate and has guided our growth to make us the
organisation we are today. The support from our Board allows us to focus on our charitable
objectives and to invest in innovation that enables us to work on the problems facing our
customers and learners.
“Congratulations to Terry and Chris on their recent awards, which are well-deserved and
recognise the excellent work that they do. We’re proud to have them as part of NCFE and
look forward to continuing to work closely with them for the benefit of NCFE’s customers and
learners.”
