LIFESAVING EDUCATION




Much work in pairs
Role playing as casualty and
rescuer, alternately
Traditionally, the instructor
observes and corrects
Partners alternate
FEEDBACK


External: a sender (instructor,
coach, etc) sends visual, verbal,
auditory, tactile messages – TO the
learner (receiver).
Internal: What the learner actually
FEELS, sees, hears and processes.
The learner is both sender and
receiver
EXTERNAL FEEDBACK
INTERNAL FEEDBACK






Especially what the learner FEELS
This is ”kinesthetic” feedback
The learner is both sender and
receiver
It is entirely within the learner,
owned by the learner
Some reflexive, some conscious
The result (reaction) of a specific
action (conscious or reflexive)
KINESTHETIC FEEDBACK



Fed by proprioceptors +
Sensory organs which register:
position, posture, angle, relative
position, movement, pressure
(its magnitude and direction),
balance, depth
Often reflexive – i.e. eliciting a
reflexive response
INTERNAL FEEDBACK
LOSE BALANCE – REGAIN BALANCE
THE CONSTANT STRUGGLE
SENSITIZING
 What
to feel for
 How does it feel?
 Giving the feeling a name
 What is the result?
 Action – reaction?
HOW DOES IT FEEL?
BODY MOVES
FORWARD

CONTACT POINTS?
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
GIVE IT A NAME!
CONTROL OF LOAD

Weak partner – lighten load
Add kick – deep breath - streamline

Partner OK – normal load
Relax – normal breathing – normal posture

Partner strong – increase load
above normal
Lift head – bend in hips – bend knees – let
out air
RECIPROCAL FEEDBACK




The casualty feels the internal feedback
The casualty can report back to the
rescuer
The rescuer feels his/her own internal
feedback
The rescuer learns how to perform the
movement BUT also learns how to play
the casualty
