Going Deeper Questions
Biblical Text: John 1:4-5, 11-14
1. The message began with a story of a little girl going exploring. Experience teaches us that our outlook often influences
our outcome. How do you prepare yourself, your attitude and outlook to get the most out of reading the Bible? What
specific practices can you engage in, that will increase the likelihood of making significant discoveries when you read
something like the Gospel of John? Are you willing to be held accountable by your group or by an agreed upon partner
to engage in those practices to help you get the most out of this study?
2. The statement was made that John’s Gospel describes the boldest move God ever made. Read Matt. 21:33-39. Now
compare it to John 1:11-14. What more could God possibly do to reach people than what He’s done. How do you
respond to people who indicate that if God was really God He could do more to change this world? Beyond sending His
own Son, what could He do?
3. When you read John 1:4-5 how do you reconcile it with reality? We live in a pretty dark world – will the light really
win? How do you convey that confidence and faith without sounding Pollyanna and out of touch with reality?
4. Without violating any confidences, share specific circumstances of people who are currently being beaten up by
“darkness.” Identify specifically and tangibly how you will be “light” to them in the next couple weeks. Pray for each
other’s endeavors and hold each other accountable to follow through. The darkness will not overcome light – Praise
God!!!
