Easter Madness!
Two weeks on and so much has
happened! Thank you so much for
those who got involved in a hugely
successful Science Week: The
costumes were incredible!
There are loads of activities going
on for Easter so here are some
reminders and dates for your diary.
Similarly to all those who attended the
Mothers’ Day Assembly, thank you
for coming and the children and the
school really appreciate your support.
We have Parent’s Evening coming up
this week and would very much like to
see all of you there. As ever, if you
can’t make those times or dates, all our
teachers would be more than happy to
rearrange for a time that suits you
both. Please just contact the school
office if this is the case.
We are now in midst of Easter
madness so again it would be great to
see as many of you as possible in the
Easter Workshops and for the Brass
concert and Easter Bonnet Parade next
week.
Just a quick reminder that it is Teacher
Training Day on Monday 24th April,
therefore children will be back on
Tuesday 25th April.
Many Thanks
Mr Slattery
Mobile Safety
Does your child have a mobile phone?
Do you know who they are in contact
with?
As a school we are dealing with an
increasing number of issues with Apps
such as WhatsApp.
We recommend that you regularly
check your child’s mobile for their
own safety. We will be arranging
workshops for the children and
parents soon.
Monday 27th March – Monday 3rd

Easter Bonnet parade
Parents are welcome to join us for
our Easter Bonnet Parade from the
Junior playground to Sainsbury’s and
back. A great time for the children
to show off their home made
creation.
There will be prizes for the best
bonnets and for our ‘make a chick’
competition.
Good Luck and get creative!
On Friday we said goodbye to
Miss Hook who has unfortunately
left us to go travelling. We wish
her all the luck for the future and
thanks for all she has done for
Topcliffe. Mr Smith will be joining
the Topcliffe Team in
replacement.
At Easter we will also be saying
goodbye to two members of staff:
Mrs Newton, after 26 years here
at Topcliffe will be retiring! Mrs
Newton has given most of her
teaching years to the children of
Topcliffe and Castle Vale and will
be sorely missed. Good Luck in
retirement Mrs Newton, you’ve
earned it!
Miss Surtees, after 6 years here at
Topcliffe, will be leaving for a
promotion at another School in
the city. We thank her for the
hard work and dedication she has
shown to the school and good
luck for the future.
Science Week!
From Monday 13th March to Friday
17th, Science Week kept the whole school
busy!
On Monday, Reception enjoyed
experimenting with bubbles and generating
scientific questions.
Science Club at Birmingham
University!
On Thursday, The Science Club will
be going to Birmingham University
to present their projects in a
Science Fayre.
The Judges From Birmingham
University will pick winners from
all the schools in the city in
attendance.
Good luck and well done on all
your hard work!
Maths Challenge:
Here are some challenges for Key
Stage 1 and Key stage 2:
Give them a go and hand the
solution to Mr Slattery or Mrs
Roberts. Two children will be picked
at random from the correct solutions
and they will win a prize.
Parents can and are encouraged to
help!
Key Stage 1
Colour Transfer Experiment
On Tuesday there was a different workshop
in each classroom; from Jellyfish in bottles,
Egg Drop Challenges, Growing Sugar
Crystals, fun with colour transferring and
much more!
After school, many families enjoyed
competing in the Science Quiz with 3 lucky
families walking away with fun-filled science
prizes.
On Wednesday the children enjoyed
learning about how their teachers use
science to perform magic tricks.
On Thursday, some children had the chance
to attend the Big Bang Fair at the NEC and
took part in lots of fun activities and shows.
A celebration of Clubs

The week ended on a high with a Science
Dress up day on Friday where we saw aliens,
robots, mad scientists and more! Then to
finish off there was a very successful Science
Cake Sale where cakes disappeared quicker
than the teachers on the last day of term
and a total of £189.66 was raised! We had
bags of fun during Science Week and are all
really excited to see what else Science will
bring to 2017. Look out for the next Science
Challenge in the Easter holidays.
Yr5 and Yr2 Maths Club
Miss Abrey
You break off a bit of it leaving it
in two pieces. E.g.
Friday:
Yr 6 Maths Club
Thank you to our
dedicated to staff who
make these opportunities
possible.
How many different ways can you
separate them? You can have
more than 2 pieces, e.g. 3 + 3 +
1.
Can you work in order?
