CHADDERTON PARK FOOTBALL CLUB Under 11 Cobras Chadderton Park v Springhead Home Date : 18/10/09 Team Adam Fisher (Capt.) Cameron Horner, Ellis Jenner, Jordan Davenport, Thomas Dean, James Stott, Ciaran Collins, Matthew Cunningham, Clayton Thomas, James Ashton, Patrick Hollywood Subs: Connor Stansfield, Connor Evans, Alex Thompson, Daniel Woodcock, Sam Carr The game started well, with an early attack from Chaddy which lead to James Ashton being allowed a shot which unfortunately flew across the face of goal to go wide. Springhead tried a counter attack but was stopped by the Chaddy Park defence, which is where Jordan Davenport picked up the ball. He set of down the wing gliding passed 3 or 4 players with his usual skill and calmness before passing it to Matthew Cunningham. Matt took a touch to control the ball, had a quick glance at the net and then chipped a beautiful ball over the Springhead keeper to put Chaddy Park 1-0 up. Chaddy Park again lead another attack from the back, this time on the opposite wing by Cameron Horner who crossed in a cracking ball only for it to be cleared. However, the clearance only went as far as Adam Fisher on the edge of the area, who let loose a bullet shot that nearly broke the net, 2-0. This was a good start for Chaddy however, it was also the beginning of the end and it all went down hill from here. Springhead broke forward and the attacker managed to go one on one with Ellis. Ellis came out to challenge him just enough to put him off and the shot hit the post. But the Chaddy Park defence were caught napping and Springhead were first to collect the rebounded ball. In sheer desperation and a momentary loss of thought Thomas made a unnecessary wreckless challenge, taking the attackers legs and giving away a penalty. Ellis, though diving the right way was unable to save the well struck penalty and Springhead, all of a sudden were back in the game. The Springhead striker again managed to break forward and again found himself one on one with Ellis. Ellis wasn’t off his line early enough and the Springhead striker slotted them back into the game, 2-2. To make matters worse Springhead broke again and a lack of a challenge at the back allowed them to take the lead, 2-3. Things picked up slightly and hope of a Chaddy Park revival began to show as a beautiful string of passes across field from Matt to Clayton over to an unmarked Ciaran. Ciaran took advantage of this and he brought Chaddy back into the game, 3-3. But the hope didn’t last for long as Chaddy’s desperate grip on the game slipped away into them loosing total control as AGAIN no challenge was made by the back four and Ellis caught napping led to Springhead taking the lead again, 3-4. Chaddy tried to equalise with Cameron shooting but it came to no avail as it skimmed past the post. Chaddy went in at half time a goal down, a dubious performance and nobody really knowing how they were loosing. 2nd half The 2nd half started in possibly the worst way it could, within 1 minute Chaddy were 3-5 down. Things picked up slightly when Clayton managed to take 4 or 5 players before shooting, only to have his shot saved. Another Springhead attack, which looked set for them to make it a 3 goal lead was denied on the line by Connor Stansfield. However, in the corner that followed Springhead did make it into a 3 goal lead, 3-6. The rest of the game played out with Chaddy Park seeming disjointed and lost with on more than one occasion we had FIVE attackers and FIVE defenders and a massive hole where the midfield should have been! This lack of formation resulted in another Springhead attack and another goal, 3-7. A recurring problem raised it’s ugly head again as Chaddy Park failed to defend or even challenge a Springhead corner and the game was put well out of reach, 3-8. By this point Chaddy had lost all shape and was playing too central, instead of pushing out as wide as possible and using the advantage of Ciaran and Matt out on the wings. Some great work came from Cameron who was brought down on the edge of the box, the ref’s wise decision to play advantage lead to Clayton scoring a late consolation goal, 4-8. The rest of the half played with Springhead seemingly constantly on the attack, which resulted in a great challenge from Adam who won the ball and took two players out with it. Another attack lead to an early shot and a great save from Ellis. During the dying minutes of the game the Chaddy Park back four seemed to pick up their performance and play like we have all come to expect but I’m afraid it was too little too late. Many things went wrong in Sunday’s game, not using advantage of the wings, too many players were bunching together which did nothing but effectively take them out of the game. Too many players were ball watching, problems are still persisting when defending corners and on the whole there was not heart in the game. Disappointingly at no point after Springhead equalised did Chaddy Park look like they wanted to win the game, this was nothing like we are used to seeing Chaddy play like and was a disappointing performance. There were some good points to the game, Connor Stansfield saved Chaddy Park at least 3 times from going further behind by clearing the ball off the line. Cameron’s work rate was, as usual, unquestionable. Matt continued to show his improvement by getting stuck in were it hurts, fighting hard and when he got the ball played many of the right ball. Only to spoil a good performance by trying to dribble passed all the Springhead defence too many times. Adam played well but seemed disjointed after taking a hefty knock on his ankle early on and in the first half. Ciaran’s work rate was fantastic, sadly being let down by not looking for the easy option of passing to unmarked players, and like Matt cost him being awarded man of the match from the managers. But it wasn’t enough and Chaddy Park deserved what they got on the day from a Springhead side who must have wondered how they over powered us so easily. We now that we are much better than today’s performance and certainly the 4 goals difference was flattering to our opposition, who will see the real Chaddy Park in the return fixture. Maybe after two disappointing defeats and being knocked down to 7th in the league, will stir up some passion and pride in the Chaddy Park hearts and buck their ideas up and play like we know they can play! Final score Lost 8 - 4 Scorers : Matthew Cunningham, Clayton Thomas, Ciaran Collins, Adam Fisher Man of match : Cameron Horner
