JOB DESCRIPTION:
The employee performs a wide variety of professional wildlife management activities including
planning, implementation, monitoring and analyzing wildlife habitat projects on private lands in
Michigan. This position is responsible for prioritizing and coordinating habitat projects funded
through various state, federal and private sources, using a featured species approach. This
position tracks and reports program accomplishments, and monitors expenditures. Provides
program oversight including developing goals and objectives, procedures and guidelines for
program implementation and supporting other Wildlife habitat biologists with first response to
landowner applications. Responsible for program outreach and working with partner private
lands program. Other activities include ecosystem management planning, mapping (GPS and
GIS), wildlife surveys, and making management recommendations including input on hunting
and trapping regulations. These duties may require the employee to handle explosive devices
and firearms. This position will utilize the document "Guiding Principles and Strategies (GPS)"
for setting strategic direction in planning efforts and in setting work priorities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in natural resource science or biological science with at least
8 semester (12 term) credits in wildlife biology and 16 semester credits (24 term) in any
combination of course work in the areas of botany, ecology, ecosystem management,
entomology, natural resources GIS applications, mammalogy, ornithology, wildlife management,
zoology, conservation biology, human dimensions of fish and wildlife management, evolutionary
biology, forest resources, environmental science, or natural resources law and policy.
