(Not a one time event) • • • • • • • • Rejected by peers Isolates self due to rejection Unemployable due to deficits in the area of social skills Disciplined due to interactions with peers Teased by others In a more restrictive placement Additional adult supervision due to social skills deficits Is “set up” by peers ESY Social Skills The BIG question to ask: Do the deficits impede the student’s ability to establish meaningful social relationships which often lead to withdrawal and a life of social isolation? ESY Social Skills The Process The same for all students After the process Send the paperwork to Robin Wishkoski/ISC-S Registration forms will be sent to the campus after the data submitted is reviewed ESY Social Skills Prior to the IEP Meeting be sure that: • • • • Goals and objectives are in the area of social interactions Goals and objectives are implemented by special education staff (all year, not just for ESY) If the student requires services by a speech pathologist, this is a service recommended in addition to social skills Academic goals and objectives are not included for ESY Social Skills
