Registering: On your computer, go to https://melbourne.fmsensing.com to register. Note that the activation email for the registration can sometimes arrive in the Spam folder. Once you have finished the registration, you will be directed to the Activity Diary page, which you will use later to validate your travel data. You can also download the Plain Language Statement and the consent form that you would have accepted during registration. Downloading and using the app: Download the FMSensing app (available for Android and iPhone). Use your email address (and not your username) and password to login into the app. Note that if you are using an older version of the app, the default page will give an error message like this. Just press cancel and the app will be running just fine. Please ensure that Location Services or GPS is enabled for the FMSensing app. For iPhone, also make sure that Background App Refresh is enabled for the app. Once you are logged in, the app will start recording data. Note that GPS drains the battery faster than usual and you may need to charge during the day. Validating your data: Log back in to https://melbourne.fmsensing.com on your computer and click on the Activity Diary. From the calendar, select either the current day's date or another date for which you have collected data. To scroll through the activity list, hover the mouse cursor on the activity list and use the mouse scroll button. Click the "Verify" button of an activity, and click "Submit" when you have validated and answered the extra questions about the activity. That activity should now be marked as "Verified". To add a stop, click the "Add Stop" button and click the "Add here" button on a travelling activity within which the stop is contained. Enter the arrival and departure time, and specify the location of the stop. Click "Submit" to finish. The stop location can be fine-tuned by dragging the stop icon on the map. To delete an activity, click the "x" button on the left side of the activity. This provides a quick way to remove ‘fake activities’ that may have been accidentally detected by the app, such as stopping at a traffic light. A dialog bar will pop up to prevent you from accidentally deleting an activity. Before finishing, make sure that all activities have been marked as "Verified". If there are any issues while reviewing the data, please click on the link at the bottom of the validation page (“Problems with validating this day? Let us know here”). This will allow you to send a message directly to the survey team describing specific travel data that could not be easily added or verified. This is a trial study that will allow the research team to better understand travel patterns and travel data from across Victoria. Any feedback that you have while using the app is appreciated, and can be emailed to [email protected].
