Writing Goals Using KCCRS • Academics • • • • Reading Language Arts Writing Math • Transition • If needed • Seniors • Behavior What areas do I need to write a goal in? • Goals are based on data that justifies a need • If you are providing support in that area—you need a goal • Consult IEPs still need to have a goal How do I know if I need a goal? • KCCRS—All Academic goals • Reading • Math • Children taking the DLM—Must qualify for it. • Use the Essential Elements • Behavior goals are based on the Social and Emotional Standards What do I base my goals on? • Based on diagnostic data • ELA will be grade level • Math may or may not be at their grade level-due to scope and sequence. • Behavior—data collected on the behavior How do I know which standards to choose? • Reading/Writing/Language Arts • Reading only, writing only or combined to Language Arts • Reading Level—GE and Accuracy—Jerry Johns • Error analysis on the reading • Types of errors-missed words, endings, substitutions, etc. • Comprehension-retell, sequence, inference, compare, contrast, etc. • Vocabulary—ESL or second language learner-usually a major concern • Writing—Sample, suggest CBM • Error analysis—Think back to 6 traits of writing. • Language Arts is a combined reading and writing goal. • For further information: Talk to the classroom teacher Clarify • Math • Error Analysis of math skills, computation and application • Scope and sequence • Diagnostics—IXL, teacher reports, CBM, placement tests, etc. • May be over multiple grade levels Clarify • Behavior • Observations • Data collected Clarify • Fluency—reading range • Vocabulary—vocabulary (Definite if second language student) • Comprehension—Key ideas, Craft and Structure, Integration of knowledge and Ideas • May need to look at both Literature and Informational texts Let’s Look at specific standards • Writing • Types and Purposes—Different formats for writing • Production and Distribution—Improving writing features • Research—How to do and write up results Let’s Look at specific standards • Math • • • • • Scope and sequence May be multiple grade levels Computation—lower level skills Application—high level skills Take practice standards into consideration Let’s Look at specific standards • Behavior • Grade level • Character, Personal Development, Social Development • Choose one, two, or all three areas Let’s Look at specific standards • DLM—Must meet criteria • http://dynamiclearningmaps.org/kansas • • • • Must have a goal for reading and one for math Must be registered for DLM. Fill out first contact survey after Oct. 1. The First Contact Survey determines the Linkage Level that will be delivered to the student when the student enters the assessment. There are 5 linkage levels: • Successor • Target • Proximal • Distal • Initial Let’s Look at specific standards This is what they look like • Choose between 4-8 standards • This is a year long plan • Math and Essential elements have numbers to go along with the standard—please write out the standard • ELA have anchor standards, domains and indicators, write out the specific indicator you are using.
