We appreciate that choosing the right setting for your child is a difficult decision; here at
Kingsnorth Little Stars we aim to create a secure, friendly and enjoyable environment that

them to provide the best care for your child.

www.kent.gov.uk/freefor2.
Free Early Education

Keyperson
Your child will be allocated a Keyperson and a Buddy when they start with us. This person
is responsible for monitoring and observing your child’s progress. Before your child starts
you will be offered a home visit and free taster session for your child (and you!) We will
explain the setting’s routines and you will be given the opportunity to express any
concerns/worries you may have prior to your child starting.
Policies
Kingsnorth Little Stars policies are available to look at, please speak to Abigail or Emma.
If you would like to familiarise yourself with them we have Statutory and Good Practice
Policies. Alternatively these can be emailed to parents upon request.
Parents Noticeboard
The noticeboard will be available for you to see inside the nursery for parents to access
information. It will display our bad weather policy, term dates, Ofsted information and
complaints procedures and any other relevant data you need to know about!
Non-Attendance due to Sickness/Holidays
Please let us know (either by ringing or texting) if your child will be absent from the setting
and their expected return date (if known.) Please note your child should not attend
Nursery from 48 hours following the last episode of sickness/diarrhoea
Garden
We use this area daily so it is important that your child is wearing suitable
sensible clothing and footwear to enable them to go outside. We advise
against children wearing flip flops, open toed sandals or slingbacks as they
can inhibit their safe climbing and running ability. Likewise please ensure
your child has a coat in the colder weather (and named wellies too if you wish
but these are only for outside play so a spare pair of shoes/trainers need to
be provided for indoor use) as we will go outside daily, whatever the
weather! We have recently refurbished this area and now have astroturf
flooring and a variety of new exciting garden toys for the children to explore
and play with!

Spare Clothing/Additional Footwear
Obviously accidents happen so to minimise distress for your child it is recommended that
a full set of spare clothing comes to the setting EACH TIME your child attends. If your child
comes to us wearing wellies, we recommend they have a change of shoes suitable for
indoor use.
Toileting
If your child is in nappies/pull-ups please provide nappies, wipes and nappy sacks and bags.
We do not have the specialist facilities to dispose of soiled nappies so these will be sent
home with you at the end of your child’s session.
Staff will wear disposable gloves/aprons which are disposed of after each nappy change.
Children are regularly checked by their Keyperson or Buddy to ensure they are kept
comfortable and changed. When a child has their nappy changed/wet clothes removed
the incident is recorded in our Wet Change book and a copy given to the parent/carer at
the end of the child’s session.
If your child is potty training, please discuss any concerns/issues with your child’s
keyperson so we can continue to enforce the same procedures/routines at nursery.
Uniform
We have t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale with our logo on them which we find the children
enjoy wearing and they also keep their own clothes cleaner. All clothes are for sale in sizes
3/4 years or 5/6 years.
T-shirts £6 each
Sweatshirts £9 each
Behaviour
Within the setting we will encourage children to respect each other and promote positive
behaviour. Inappropriate behaviour will always be challenged in an age appropriate
manner. We expect all adults and visitors to provide positive role models for the children.
Each child is treated as an individual.
Bad Weather
In the unlikely event that the nursery needs to be closed due to bad weather
announcements will be made on Radio Kent/KMFM/Heart and our Facebook page
(kingsnorthlittlestars).
Concerns/Complaints

The Learning Journey
The curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage is planned around four main themes:
A unique child
Positive Relationships
Enabling environments
Every child is a
competent learner from
birth who can be
resilient, capable,
confident and selfassured.
Children learn to be
strong and independent
from a base of loving
and secure relationships
with parents/and or a
key person.
The environment plays a
key role in supporting
and extending children’s
development and
learning.
Learning and
development
Children develop and
learn in different ways
and at different rates
and all areas of learning
and development are
equally important and
inter-connected.
There are seven areas of Learning and Development these are:
The Prime Areas:
Personal, Social and Emotional
Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development
The Specific Areas:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts & Design
These areas often interlink, providing a holistic learning experience. Your child’s progress will be
recorded in this Learning Journey, which aims to......
Celebrate
children’s
achievements
throughout
their time
within the
Foundation
Stage
Support
children
when they
are
challenged
Monitor the
skills that
children
are
developing
Enable staff
to plan
effectively
in order to
meet
children’s
learning
needs
Show
children’s
progression
and record
their
viewpoints
Highlight
the
discoveries
children
make
Serve as a
reminder of
the
wonderful
experiences
that they
have
This unique and special journey is a partnership between your child and all of us who support their
learning, both at home and at Nursery.
During the academic year in which your child is 5, some materials from this learning journey may be
used to support the completion of an EYFS Profile. An EYFS Profile is a legal document that enables year
1 teachers to plan an effective, responsive and appropriate curriculum that will continue to meet all
children’s needs after they leave the Foundation Stage.
Thank you for choosing Kingsnorth Little Stars for your child. We look forward to
getting to know you and your child and will do everything we can to provide a happy
experience for your child whilst they are with us.
