I am going to see
the Orthoptist
I am going to York Hospital to have
my eyes checked
I will go through the main door
I will go through the foyer
I will follow the signs to the eye clinic
The receptionist will check my details
on the computer
I will need to sit down for a while
The Orthoptist will call my name
I will go into the Orthoptists room
They will ask me or whoever is with me
some questions
They will want to check my vision
They will cover one of my eyes so they can check the other eye on its own
If I can read letters they will show me a letter chart
I will read the letters I can see if I cannot read some of them that is OK
If I do not know the name of the letters
I can point to them on a card
If letters are too difficult I can tell the Orthoptist
what is on some pictures instead
There are some pictures I just need to
point to if I cannot say what it is
The Orthoptist will test one eye at a time,
by covering the other eye.
The Orthoptist will ask me to look a
torch and follow it with my eyes
I will need to look at something very small
and close up
A prism will be put in front of my eye to check if
my eyes point in the same direction as each other
I will be given special glasses with
one red and one green filter
When I have the glasses on I might
be able to see in 3D!
The End
The Orthoptist will write everything down and tell me
and whoever is with me what will happen next.
