Stillwater head coach Tucker Barnard On the first win of the season “It’s great you know someone said this is the first one in a year and it feels like 10 years. I’m excited for the kids tonight we worked hard. We have challenged them and worked them over for three really hard grueling weeks. Tonight they get to celebrate and have a good time for homecoming. On scoring on six offensive plays It was great I was proud of our offense on executing really quickly. First of all Braxton came out and ran the ball really well on offense we were almost too efficient. We had a lot of defensive plays because our offense was so efficient. It was a good night all around and our offense executed. That’s what happens you put some stuff together but we still have a lot of work to do. On momentum during halftime “We haven’t had the experience of much success lately. The last time we won a lot of games these guys were sophomores and they weren’t contributing a whole lot so we thought it was important to explain to them what’s next and to make sure we came out in the second half. Stillwater quarterback Braxton Noble On the first win of the season “It felt great. It was the first district game and it was homecoming so that just adds to it and makes it that much better. On the 73-yard rushing touchdown in the 1st quarter “I was excited that we could jump on them early and start scoring some points. I know it started the tone because it put doubt in their mind that they weren’t going to have their hands full with the offense all night.” On playing at Union next week “Well you know they’re Union. They are a great team we’re going to have to come out and have a great week of practice. Anything less will be bad so we’re just going to have to go out and compete.” Stillwater cornerback Isaiah Johnson On his big touchdown of the game “It was just pretty exciting. It felt pretty good.” On winning homecoming “We really needed that win. We had some bad games before so this was a good win for us.” On next week’s game against Union “Go out and play hard and see what happens.” Stillwater safety King Williams On his 65-yard touchdown in the 1st quarter “It felt good. It was really exhausting but it felt so good. “ On the win for Homecoming “It was more than I can explain. It was the first win of the year. We just turned it around and now we’re on a positive road.” On what went right for the offense “Our skill positions just played the key parts right. We did everything that we practiced on in practice perfect so we came out and capitalized that and got the W.” Dayton Campbell On what worked for the defense tonight “ We did a bunch of different sets tonight like I played linebacker and that’s not what I usually play. With their kind of offense you need an extra outside guy so I believe that led to our success. Jon Littell On his two touchdowns and what allowed his success against Ponca City defense “ Our line did a great job all night protecting Braxton and allowing him enough time to throw and he was just making some great throws. The other receivers were doing a good job of drawing attention to themselves and fortunately I just had some good reads. “ On building off this game for the next week “ Obviously there is still room to improve but we are taking this and going in the right direction. We have to continue to work harder in practice.” Stillwater safety TJ Black On what helped make the defense so successful “We tackled better. Recently, we haven’t been tackling well and this game we did a lot better.” On how to build on this victory for next week “We just have to keep up the hard work. It’s going to help motivate us because football is more fun when you’re winning.”
