 Sexting” is the term commonly used to refer to the act of
sending or receiving nude or sexually suggestive images
through mobile devices or social media sites. This image
sharing can be consensual, coerced, or achieved through
manipulation. When teens participate in this form of digital
sexual expression, it can violate existing laws established to

 The following is a series of texting sessions between two dating
teens which ends up going from texting to sexting.

Vermont Sexting Law Provisions
Minors engaging in sexting will be adjudicated delinquent and
may be referred to the juvenile diversion program for the first
offense. For subsequent offenses, they may be prosecuted for
sexual exploitation of children, but do not have to be a part of
the sex offender registry. All records will be expunged on the
minor turning eighteen. It is not a violation if the person that
