New Student Academic Adviser Information – fall 2014 Please return to the Student Activities and Residential Life Office by July 1, 2014 NAME First-year [ ] Transfer [ ] Language(s) previously studied___________________ Scripps places great importance on academic advising. All Scripps academic advisers are full-time, experienced faculty who hold office hours throughout the year to meet with advisees and students enrolled in their classes. Please use this form to help inform your adviser of your academic interests, possibly career paths, or any other concerns. You may change advisers as your academic interests become more certain and as faculty advising loads permit, normally after at least one semester. Many incoming students enter college with a particular major; however, a liberal arts college such as Scripps exposes you to choices. The Core curriculum, general education requirements, and an array of elective courses will introduce you to a range of fields and disciplines that will challenge you and fuel your intellectual curiosity. To benefit from the College’s emphasis upon advising, you must take advantage of it. Be proactive about initiating contact with your adviser for information and advice about requirements, classes, low grade notices, potential graduate programs, and other academic matters. You are expected to avail yourself of your adviser’s office hours or schedule an appointment time to meet with him or her. Finally, it is your responsibility to contact your adviser in a timely manner for required signatures on forms, petitions, and registration clearance. Listed below are programs of study available to Scripps students. Rank your top-five academic areas of interest, one being the highest. Your rankings need not relate to your current academic goals but may represent areas in which you have had significant experience, enjoyment, or curiosity.
