10-11 July 2017 Kiev, Ukraine Workshop on Tools and Methodologies for Municipal Sustainable Energy Planning Kiev, July 10-11, 2017 Background While energy and climate policies are often set at the national level, a significant share of implementing actions are being taken at the regional and municipal level. The overall success depends on the capacity of local authorities to properly plan and select cost-efficient and effective measures and develop municipal energy sector development plans taking into consideration national and international climate policy objectives and minimizing costs of a low carbon transition. The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) and the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of Ukraine organize this workshop in the framework of the project “Local Initiatives for Sustainable Ukraine – LINK” supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment. The main purpose of this workshop is to improve capacity of Ukrainian municipalities in using relevant energy planning tools for sustainable energy planning and smooth transition to a low carbon economy. The key objectives of the workshop are as follows: - Improving energy planning capacities of Ukrainian local authorities via the use of relevant energy planning tools Creating a network of energy planning tool developers, energy modelling experts and Ukrainian and international practitioners involved in energy sector planning at the municipal level; Identifying knowledge and experience gaps for future capacity building and networking activities. It is expected that key audiences of the workshop will be municipal energy planning practitioners from municipalities of Ukraine and other countries of the region as well as Ukrainian and international energy modelling experts. Workshop languages will be Ukrainian and English. Simultaneous interpretation during the workshop will be arranged. The workshop venue will be Radisson Blu Hotel, Podil (address: вулиця Братська, 17-19, Київ, 04070). 10-11 July 2017 Kiev, Ukraine Draft agenda Timing Agenda item 8:30 – 9:00 9:00 – 9:30 DAY 1 - 10 July 2017 Registration Introduction and & welcome to participants 9:30 – 11:00 9:30 – 10:00 10:00 – 10:30 10:30 – 11:00 Energy sector planning in cities: objectives and challenges Energy planning in cities Sustainable Energy Roadmaps are powerful tools that encompass the key components for designing a comprehensive sectoral strategy: Technology assessments, socio-economic modeling and finance sector analysis are being used to draft a long-term vision, design concrete policies and measures, and implement effective governance procedures.
