SEND Strategy 2017-2020
“Working together with families and communities to support
children and young people with SEND to fulfil their own potential,
and live healthy and fulfilling lives in their communities”
Our aim: Children and young people with SEND and their families
have access to the information, services and support they need to
enable them to achieve their potential.
• Priority 1: Communicating the local offer
• Priority 2: The SEND Journey
• Priority 3: Developing services and provision
• Priority 4: Transitions/Moving into adulthood
Developing services and provision in Suffolk
Proposed Core Principles
 integrated working and co-production with
parents/carers, children and young people at each
stage
 access to appropriate education closer to home
 integration in or with mainstream settings wherever
suitable
 early identification and intervention
 evidenced based and best value planning
Activity
From a parents/ carers perspective what other
core principles should we be adopting when
developing services and provision?
In your groups please identify what these
should be and why they are important to you.
SEND Pathway
Key-working to support and enable
First steps
A SEND Sufficiency Plan will be published by April 2018 that will detail the
longer term plan for services and provision, but we recognise from the
feedback by parents and the Ofsted report that we need to take some
immediate action. This will include:
• Strengthening outreach services – support and challenge
• Begin the co-production of a new single multi-agency assessment
model
• Create interim provision where there is evidence of an immediate need
• Alignment of services and pathways across agencies
• Admission arrangements to specialist provision are transparent to all
stakeholders particularly families
SEND Sufficiency Plan
“A plan that ensures we have enough provision and services to meet the
needs of Children and Young People with SEND in the future”
The plan will include:
• How, by working together, we are going to meet the gaps in services
and provision and by when
• Who will be responsible and accountable for delivering the actions
• How we will fund the changes and development work
• What the outcomes will be for children and young people with SEND in
Suffolk
• How the plan will be monitored, reviewed and evaluated with regular
reporting to all stakeholders
Activity
To help us with the SEND Sufficiency Plan
what are the most important factors for us to
consider from a parent’s/ carer’s perspective
when we develop services and provision for
your child or young person? What would
these look like?
Summary
• Feedback from parents/ carers, Ofsted and CQC
• Response to Ofsted/ CQC report – SEND Strategy and
written Statement of Action
• Development of Co-produced Sufficiency Plan and
alignment of services to deliver the SEND Pathway model
• Important feedback from you that will inform our future
planning
Thank you for listening and your contribution
