The service is provided in a relaxed homely atmosphere. What people told us During the course of the inspection three service users were spoken with. Three questionnaires had also been returned by service users. Comments included "I like it here, it's spic and span", "I feel safe here and just want to stay here", "all the staff look after us", "I have a named worker but we know all the staff", "I've enjoyed going to the football". Self assessment No self-assessment had been requested from the service. From this inspection we graded this service as: Quality of care and support Quality of environment Quality of staffing Quality of management and leadership 6 - Excellent not assessed 6 - Excellent not assessed What the service does well The service provides a high quality service based on the principles of recovery. The service is provided in a homely and relaxed atmosphere . As the service had recently admitted a new person into the service it was possible to see the work the service had been doing during the initial stages of this admission. Examination of records indicated how the service was gathering information. In discussions with staff they spoke about the importance of getting to know any new resident and taking time to work with each person as an individual. Each input by staff with any of the people they supported had been considered as part of their recovery process. The service was reflecting on their inputs and working with the person they supported to get their view of what they had been doing. Every person living at the service had positive examples of the inputs from staff. Risk assessments were in place for each service user. In some cases the service user had completed these . There were examples of service users identifying their own risks and the best ways to reduce these risks. Each person living at the service had a record of who was important to them and of any other health or social care professional who had been involved in their care. The service would support people to access health across a range of services. There was also evidence of health promotion going on within the service and the organisation as a whole. They were working with a local sports facility with a view to improving the physical activities of people living at the service. There was evidence of the service following procedure in relation to supporting service users with their medication. The manager advised on the importance of being consistent with procedures. A service development plan was in place and this was made available at the time of the inspection. In discussions with the manager and staff they came across as motivated and keen to provide a high quality service. Staff spoke positively about the training they had received and also their plans for further training. One new member of staff spoke about the induction process and how positive that had been so far. All staff spoken with advised that they had been well supported by the manager and by the organisation. Comments from staff included "we have access to fully funded training, that is important", "it is so homely here you can build up positive working relationships", "we focus completely on the person", "the medication training has been very good". What the service could do better The service is currently performing to a high level.
