Steps to graph an Inequality
•
Treat it as an Inequality
- solve for y
- graph just the lines
Steps to graph an Inequality
•
STEP UNO: Pick a test point
- make sure it is NOT on the line
- then plug x and y into the original inequality
•
STEP DOS: Shade
- shade the area that includes the test point which
makes the inequality true
Half Plane Inequality
There are two types
Of Half Plane Inequalities…
QuickTime™ and a
decompressor
are needed to see this picture.
1) Open Half- Plane:
- does NOT contain its
boundary line. There is a
dashed line used to indicate
that the boundary is NOT a part of the
open half
2) Closed Half- Plane:
- contains its boundary line. A solid line is used to
Indicate the boundary of a closed half plane
Absolute Value Inequalities

Type 2
• to find the vertex set what is in the absolute value
brackets [ ] equal to zero.
• put x of vertex and several other xs’ near it in a t chart
Graphing Multiple Lines
Example:
If you have 3 < x < 6 then:
- 3 < x is the first line
- x < 6 is the second line
