Journey Ministries
Transformation for your life;
Transition for your future.
Prospective Student
Application Package
Dear Prospective Student:
Thank you for your interest in Journey Ministries! It is a privilege to consider your application, and
we hope that the Journey Ministries program is a good match for what you are seeking for the next
steps of transformation and transition in your life. Journey Ministries is not for everyone, so please
review this application in detail and be sure you are able to submit with confidence and in full
agreement with all that will be asked of you.
Journey Ministries is not just a “release address” and so, for those just needing an address to submit
in order to get an approved release plan (as much as do we understand that need), Journey Ministries
is not available for that use. We require full program participation and anyone who releases to
Journey Ministries but does not take part in the actual program services will be discharged and
removed from our program which would mean the loss of any housing we provided and a potential
violation of your DOC release requirements.
Journey Ministries is also not for those who have become suddenly religious just to get released, or
for those who have become mired down in religious ritual or dogma instead of focused on real life
change.
Though we do hold a weekly Bible study which all are required to attend, we are not a church and so
we will not be engaging in debates of dogma, doctrine, or denomination. It is not our place to define
your spiritual walk, but to encourage you in maturing in your understanding and walking it out.
Journey Ministries provides the opportunity for those desiring to create a new future, who want to
turn a positive system of beliefs into positive ways of action, and who want to live out the definitions
of their faith where “renewing of the mind” can be demonstrated in a renewed life. We will support
you, encourage you, provide you with tools for change and give you places to put those tools to work.
You will plan the work of transformation and work that plan in ongoing transition. We will hold you
accountable and, even more importantly, we will help you learn how to hold yourself accountable so
that your success continues long after you complete the Journey Ministries program.
If this sounds like what you’re looking for, please read on, complete the attached package in full, and
submit your application in a timely manner. Be aware that space is limited, so those applications
showing the most serious levels of commitment will be considered as a priority.
Again, our thanks for your interest in the Journey Ministries program. We hope to meet you soon!
GOD BLESS

Welcome to Journey Ministries!
Transformation for your life;
Transition for your future.
Mission Statement – Our Vision for Journey Ministries
The mission and vision of Journey Ministries, as a nonprofit, charitable and educational
organization, is the establishment of a faith-based, educational, human services program
providing support and resources for positive behavioral change through practical Life Skills
instruction by qualified staff and through the provision of housing, vocational training
services, and assistance for successful pro-social integration across all life areas. We help
students to first transform their lives and then transition their lives into the greater
community to reach the place where they ultimately see themselves and successfully find
fulfillment in all aspects of daily living.
Program Summary
Journey Ministries provides life skills training, work skills training, residential placement,
vocational instruction and readiness preparation, and employment placement assistance. All
is provided in a format designed to establish, encourage, and enhance personal
accountability, such that students will develop a sense of outcomes-based thinking, learning
positive choice-making, as well as positive choice-creation, within any circumstance. The
goal is for life-long success, enabling students to transform the present in order to transition
daily toward a positive future.
What is Journey Ministries All About?
Journey Ministries is a multi-service, faith-based life transformation and transition program
in which a person’s personal commitment and desire to move toward a positive, productive,
and purpose-filled future is met with the opportunity to do so through providing the
knowledge, the tools, and the resources of life change. One makes their own goals and
follows through with them.
What Exactly What Does All That Mean?
Let’s define our terms more closely for you, the potential student, so you can understand
exactly what is meant by all of the above:
Multi-Service: At Journey Ministries, you will enroll in a mandatory life skills training class
which provides a broad and essential range of tools and techniques to cope with everything
life throws your way. For those needing residential services, Journey Ministries provides
student housing. Presently, housing units are shared, usually two students per living unit, in
an apartment style setting. For those not yet employed Journey Ministries also provides, on a
case by case basis, vocational training in a variety of fields, meaning on the job work skills
instruction, for which students receive a monthly stipend, thus enabling students to meet
costs for the program plus begin to establish the range of personal needs for building a life in
the community. Journey Ministries further provides work readiness training for the eventual
transition into the outside work force. Also available is job placement assistance through a
network of partnered companies. Leadership opportunities are open to those who want to
become part of the eventual operation of the Journey Ministries program, after successful
graduation. Finally, Journey Ministries also provides assistance with community placement,
probation and/or Judgment and Sentence requirements, helping a student to understand and
navigate through those requirements in order to maintain compliance.
Faith-Based: Journey Ministries asserts that a positive sense of personal spirituality is an
important tool to develop and engage the greater good within ourselves, finding and
following a sound moral compass that makes positive decision-making a simple process of
creating and making good choices for good outcomes in our lives that bless our own
endeavors, bless our loved ones, and bless the greater community through our prosocial
path of living. Because we are networked with various churches, we are able to support and
encourage positive spiritual fellowship, helping you to find your own place in the spiritual
community.
Transformation and Transition: At the core of Journey Ministries’ approach is the method
of making changes in how we think, act, and live (changing attitudes, beliefs and
circumstances away from the negative to the positive) so that changes can be realized in the
outcomes of what our choices produce in our lives. By understanding how various choices
affect us, how they either benefit or put at risk our life goals, and in what other options are
available when our first or best choice doesn’t seem open, students begin to create an
outcome-based way of living. Each door of success a student opens goes on to open new
possibilities for even greater progress. Small but steady steps, over time, create an outward
life that is consistent with the inward desires of positive living. Practical help, through life
skills training, is given by teaching mastery of how to manage your time, your money, your
stress load, your behaviors, your thought processes, your relationships, and your
reintegration process.
In a practice of constantly taking stock of where we are, and where we need to go next,
students know what they need to do, every day, to keep moving forward toward life goals.
Goals are not only set but realized. This sets Journey Ministries apart from other programs
that merely tell students to make progress. Journey Ministries helps one define there
progress, breaking it down into a specific plan that says what you are doing, why you are
doing it, and how you can get it done. Journey Ministries measures your progress in terms of
life outcomes – not what you say you’re doing, or what you say you’d like to do, but rather by
what you are doing and by what you have gotten done. This raises the bar with respect to
expectation, but also raises the bar for our students in what they are able to achieve. We do
expect that you set and achieve specific life goals but we are here, step by step, to help you
access the knowledge, the tools, and the resources to realize the achievements you have set
for yourself.
Understanding Expectations
Journey Ministries is not a “free ride.” Students do pay for program services and, more so,
progress is expected in order to maintain enrollment. If you have no real desire to do more
than just talk about change goals, then Journey Ministries is not for you. Be honest with
yourself before enrollment. If you are not ready for real life change then it is better not to
waste your time or that of Journey Ministries in attempting to just “go through the motions.”
Because Journey Ministries is an outcomes-based program, it is not possible even to attempt
to do so. Your progress will be regularly assessed and reaching steps of achievement is the
test of your level of participation. The benefit for you as the student is seeing your life move
forward. The other benefit is that, because Journey Ministries is all about outcomes, then
just as we expect you to commit to the change process, you can expect that Journey
Ministries will also commit our help to you.
What Journey Ministries Expects of Students: Journey Ministries expects students to have
evidence of a personal desire for life change, to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to
maintaining positive, prosocial behaviors, and to be open to an honest, supportive, and
ongoing assessment process that helps you to take stock of the progress you are making in
your life.
What Students Can Expect of Journey Ministries: Students should expect support,
encouragement, practical and realistic help, useful instruction, access to available services,
individualized case management, acceptance and interaction in a friendly and warm
program community, help to maintain post-release compliance requirements, and assistance
in ultimately transitioning to the greater public community.
Journey Ministries Student Programs
Life Skills Training (required): All students will enroll in the life skills training classes,
which are up to two nights per week, which includes case management sessions to assess
your ongoing progress.
Student Housing Program: We provide housing for all male Students/Participants. We do
not deny anyone because of there criminal history. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 states: “Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things
have become new”. We cannot over express, if you have any difficulty with ones past,
this is not the place for you.
Vocational Skills Program: Everyone is required to participate in the Vocational Skills
Program for the first thirty day's. During this time you will be assigned to either the cafe,
landscaping business, or possibly utilizing computer computer skills. You will receive a
stipend for the hours assigned, which will be applied towards your program fee's. During
this time you will also be guided in developing a plan of obtaining a career, rather than just
working a job
Journey Ministries Student Assistance Services
Supervision Compliance Plan (if applicable): A main and indeed essential priority is
meeting the requirements of your J&S, or Community Placement or Probation or Parole, to
ensure that you are in compliance and avoid any post-release violations. It is the task of
Journey Ministries to assist you in that endeavor, to review your requirements with you, help
you establish a compliance plan, assist you to access any resources needed and continue to
work with you, through any required time of supervision, to help you to remain in
compliance with any conditions you are required to maintain.
Case Management: Every student is unique, and, therefore, each student receives
individualized, confidential case management, comprised of one on one sessions with your
Journey Ministries Program Facilitator, or the Journey Ministries Student Case Manager, to
review your ongoing progress, from enrollment, to graduation, making sure that your
experience with Journey Ministries is providing you with what you need to succeed.
Financial Accountability Management: In order to begin to build financial capital, ensure
that fees are paid, and that funds are set aside for necessary attainments, such as
transportation, communications, household needs, clothes, entertainment, etc., effective skills
of financial management are modeled, through an ongoing, comprehensive review of how
and where funds are acquired, and disbursed. Detailed financial accountability is required for
a minimum of 90 days, after enrollment. Financial control reverts to students, increasingly,
on a case by case basis, with ongoing progress checks to ensure mastery of skills
throughout the duration of the Journey Ministries program.
Additional Journey Ministries Services
Community Dinner: All are required to attend the monthly Community Dinner. This is a
time to enjoy good food, good company, positive socialization and to talk about topics of
interest both inside and outside of the Journey Ministries Program.
Events: Periodic group events are made available, whether a BBQ, trip to the movies, or
visiting to a local attraction or venue, in order to build positive socialization experiences and
help encourage the process of community integration.
Fund Raisers: Twice a year Fund Raiser's are held and all are expected to attend and assist
with preparation. Being that we are a self supporting program, these are held to help offset
the additional expenses that the program fee's do not cover.
Program Service Fee
Students/Participants are required to pay a program fee for housing and services. This is
mandatory and necessary so to be able to cover expenses. Everyone is required to
participate in the Vocational Skills Program for the first thirty day's. You are also required to
participate in the Life Skills programming, the weekly Bible study, and to attend one church
meeting a week at a church of your choice.
As stated already, the fully furnished housing units are shared, usually two occupants per
unit. Each unit has its own kitchen and bathroom facilities. Usually, laundry services are
available on site. Journey Ministries Housing is a friendly and pleasant community where
you can focus on moving your life forward, and need not be concerned about any “stigma”
attached to a criminal conviction (If applicable). Vocational instruction opportunities
(although limited in availability) ensure a drug free, harassment free workplace, and do
provide you with a monthly stipend to offset program costs, and provide for other personal
needs. Both the Housing, and Vocational programs have the added benefit of establishing a
residential and an employment “history” for you that serves as a positive basis for your
future transition into the greater community upon program completion, or even sooner,
depending on your individual Case Management Plan.
The fee schedule is as follows, which covers housing and programming. The only additional
expense is the electric bill, which is split between those living in that apartment. The average
billing is about $30.00 per person every other month.
Student Housing and Program:
Specialty Student Housing and Program:
$ 500.00 per month
$ 800.00 per month
There may be extra fee's depending on the individuals specific needs.
