1. Job Purpose
To develop global demand forecasts to feed global procurement plans in line with
ELT strategic operational policies and practices
2. Dimensions
Financial:
Responsibility for ensuring Press investment in stock is kept within agreed
parameters, currently circa £15m
Staff:
Reported to by Global Demand Planner
Other:
Pulling together multiple demand forecasts from each branch into a global
plan, ensuring stock is available in the right quantities at the right time in
the right place – covering some 80 plus territories and 7000 plus ELT
product lines
3. Principal Accountabilities
Develop global demand forecasts for all ELT product by collaborating with the
regional demand planners to create a global demand plan that will feed into the
procurement team’s print strategy.
Review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data and
evaluate forecast results.
Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and
refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions.
Interact with sales and marketing colleagues to understand demand forecast drivers.
Provide input to ELT finance and the Supply chain teams in developing inventory
strategies on back-list titles, new product and rollovers.
Liaise with sales managers, demand forecasters and stock buyers globally to define
first print runs and their print strategies.

4. Context
(a) Operating Environment:
Working closely with the demand planners
globally to provide a service to the sales teams,
customers and branch supply chain teams to
ensure product is available when and where
needed within the Press stockholding policies.
(b) Framework & Boundaries:
Stock holding policies are set by te ELT Board
and policies, procedures and systems for effective
and accurate assessment of demand are the
responsibility of Head of Demand Planning.
Proposed chages are approved by the ELT Boad.
(c) Organisation:
Global Demand Planner – they will pull together
data and liaise with the regional demand planners
to assist in formulating the demand plan.
5. Relationships
(a) Subordinates:
Monthly 121s, daily informal contact and
impromptu meetings.
(b) Superior(s):
Weekly 121 meeting will be held so that the
Demand Manager can discuss any
issues/concerns/noteworthy events. Contact will
be maintained daily as the team plans the
replenishment of ELT product.

(c) Other Contacts:
Within the company
Demand Planning and Procurement colleagues,
Supply Chain, Sales amd Marketing, Customer
Services.
Outside the company
Contact with print suppliers and typesetters
6. Knowledge and Experience
Demonstrated proficiency in statistics and forecasting with an understanding of their
financial and operational impacts. Educational background in statistics, ideally to
degree level. Forecasting certification is preferred.
Previous demand planning experience is essential.
This position requires strong analytical, organizational and decision making skills.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential to effectively interact with all teams, areas and
levels of business effecting the forecast process.
Advanced MS Excel skill are essential and knowledge of SAP and Cognos
advantageous.
7. Job Challenge(s):
Drawing together and analysing large volumes of data from vrious souces, often with
very tight deadlines, in order to develop demand plans at product level for a
complex, growing and volatile business with a range of sales patterns.
