Club Vice President Guide - Florida District of Circle K International

Club Vice President’s Guide:
As vice president, you serve three very important functions:
1. To encourage service
2. To oversee committees
3. To fill in the President’s absence.
 Projects can be made fun through fellowship. Here are a few ways to
enlist fellowship into your service projects:
o Teams  Teams can be put together based on common interests (or
simply mixing it up within a club) and can be used to
inspire members to get to know one another. A little
friendly competition can also make service a little more
interesting.
o Buddy System  Pairing a newer member with an older member can
increase club retention. It can provide a built in friend to
encourage one another to attend various service projects
and/or fellowship events.
o Socials after Service  Sometimes having a interactive planned service activity
can increase motivation to attend events. Also, it’s good to
have a planned activity to decompress and reflect on a
service project outside of the general meeting.
 Looking for Service:
o Most schools have a collegiate service that places students who
want to help in contact with those who need help. Look into
finding this resource at your own university.
 Bridge gaps:
o In your school, community, or the Florida District by encouraging
non-members to participate. Don’t be afraid to join other groups
in doing a project, it gets the Circle K name out there and any
free advertising is good. You may also attract non-members to
become active participants and these people may eventually
become dues paying members.

Announcements:
o Announce service projects at your meeting. Service is arguably
the most important aspect of the organization and you want to
make sure everyone knows this! Make sure to present service in
a friendly and enthusiastic way. It really only takes one person
that is excited/inspired to really encourage others to do the
same!
Project Planning:
o When and where you offer projects will be up to you and your
club. For commuter schools, projects that offer opportunities for
the whole family to participate are better. For traditional
universities, members may have more time in the afternoon or
on the weekends to participate. The rule of thumb is to know
your school!

Head of Committees:
o The vice president is also in charge of committees. See the
Florida District resource on committees for more information.
President Absence:
o In the absence of the president, it is your responsibility to fulfill
the necessary duties. Keep informed and maintain good
relationships with the members of your club.
Delegate:
o As a Vice President, you will work with the president to delegate
responsibility.
Guest Speakers:
o You are also responsible for getting speakers to the meetings.
Speakers don't just have to talk about service; just about any
topic is fair game. The goal is to keep your members interested
as well as informed.
Recording:
o Keep good records. Your files will be important for your
successor and applying for awards.
