THE LIFE
AND
PRIORITIES
OF
PAUL
2 Corinthians 5:6-10
Background
I.
Paul's _______ _____________. (vs. 6-8a)

Paul's "good courage" took the form of confidence and
________________ in the face of testing and danger.

Paul's good courage was based on knowing that:
o
Patient endurance of suffering in this life would be
abundantly _____________ by the Lord in the life to come.
(2 Corinthians 4:17, Philippians 2:8-9)
o
In eternity, the Lord would provide him with a perfect,
sinless, glorious, incorruptible __________, just like the one
Jesus has. (2 Corinthians 5:1, Philippians 3:20-21)
II. Paul's _________________. (v. 8b)


A brief detour: Three possible states of existence of a Christian:
o
State #1 - being in our "earthy _________". This describes
Christians living in mortal bodies.(2 Cor. 5:1,4)
o
State #2 - being in our "____________ from God". This
describes Christians living in their perfect, eternal, glorified
bodies. (2 Cor. 5:1,2)
o
State #3 - being "___________" or "absent from the
body/present with the Lord." This describes Christians living
in a disembodied state in the Lord's presence. (2 Cor. 5:4, 8)
Paul _____________ a state of being with the Lord in a
disembodied state, over life in a mortal body with the indwelling
Holy Spirit. But ultimately, Paul's greatest desire was to live in
his glorified body in the Lord's presence. (Phil. 1:21-24, Ps. 16:11)
III. Paul's ________________. (v. 9)

Paul's burning ambition was to ____________God, built on a
foundation of saying "no" to pleasing himself. This ambition was
driven by his desire to be with the Lord. (2 Cor. 5:14-15, John 6:38)

All of us need to honestly answer the question, "For me to live is
_____________." If there is anything in this blank space other
than "the Lord", that item is an idol.
A. The _________________ behind Paul's ambition (v. 10)

Paul was motivated to please the Lord because he knew that
someday Jesus would personally evaluate the _________
behind his actions, and reward him accordingly. (1 Cor. 3:12-15)
