SCRUM TRAINING, technology serving the player.
DEVELOPMENT: an instructive tool.
TESTING: collection of precise data and statistics.
IMPROVEMENT: a strength training machine.
The Scrum Training is an innovative weight training machine created specially by
the Stade Toulousain’s rugby academy.
This project was undertaken with a specific aim : to prepare our players for all the
constraints of rugby (scrum, impact and tackling), while optimising security.
What it provides :
Individual player developement using an instructive tool.
Evaluation of individual player performance thanks to a precise
collection of data coupled with a battery of tests.
The improvement of high level players thanks to a strength training
machine.
Some technical information about its creation:
An overall view of the « scrum training ».
Personalised setting:
The height of the player.
The position of the player.
Potential exercices:
Pushing straight.
The neck.
The arm.
Rucking.
The Scrum Trainer is an individual work tool for rugby players. It is easy to use
with the aim of allowing coaches and physical fitness coaches to work one on one
with the player.
This unique machine affords common advantages to both coach and player.
Work achieved between coach and player.
Work achieved position by position.
Work achieved between coach and player.
Individual exercice (stabilisation of upper body stabusers, proper placement
of feet, back position, new position, etc…).
Individual correction (with the possibility of woring an individual or complex
movement).
Achieved work position by position.

This tool was conceived to measure the
individual capacity of each player and to
evaluate his progression. Thus we have the
possibility of collecting objective information on
various rugby efforts such as scrummaching or
clean outs/rucking).
It is with the help of special designed sensors
and a specific computer programme that
performance can be measured in real time.
Various strength tests:
Pushing straight.
The work of the neck.
The work of the arm.
Rucking.
With a more professional approach one can expect
specific results from this machine:
Getting rid of physical and technical weakness.
Technical improvement (specific placement of arms and feet, the
coordination of movements and indeed control of scrum direction –
straight scrum or wheel etc…)
Development of physical quantities (strength – speed – power).
