2011-12 UCD Undergraduate Student Fees: Breakdown This is a breakdown of the 2011-12 estimated student fees for full-time, California resident undergraduates. They are estimates because fees are subject to change at any time, without notice, as a result of gubernatorial, legislative, Regential, or campus action. System-wide Fees The system-wide fees are Tuition and the Student Services Fee. They are known as the system-wide fees because they are voted on by the Regents and are universal across all UC campuses. For the 2011-12 year, tuition comes to $11,220 and the student services fee comes to $972. Put together, system-wide fees come to $12,192, or 80.6% of total undergraduate fees. Tuition is used for (1)University-wide budget support, and (2)financial aid. Tuition is administered by the Office of the President (Mark Yudof) and is uniform across all UC Campuses. Two-thirds of tuition is allocated to campuses as general funds. History: Tuition (formerly known as Educational Fee) was established in 1970 by the Regents. Spring 2003 was the first fee increase since 1994. California State government subsidized UC costs in 2006-7 in lieu of a fee increase. Student Services Fee is used for (1) Student Support Services (services that benefit students but are complimentary, such as counseling, advising, and recreation programs), (2) debt service on Dutton Hall and the Memorial Union, and (3) mental health services. History: Student Services Fee (formerly known as the Registration Fee) was established in the 1970s by the Regents. The fee income is retained by campus and administered through the campus budget process. The fee cannot be used to fund instruction, research, or public service. Campus-Based Fees Campus-based fees are determined individually by UCs. UC Davis campus-based fees pay for various special projects and long-term services. For the 2011-12 year, they amount to $2,931.36, or 19.4% of total undergraduate fees. ASUCD Fee is used for operating budget support for ASUCD.
