$550,000 Win is 2nd Largest in DC-5 History
Players Enjoy High Prize Payouts
Washington, DC, April 28, 2017—Tolbert Strong, III of Washington, DC has won $550,000 with 12
winning DC-5 tickets for the evening game played on Friday, April 21. This win is the second highest
individual prize payout for this game. Mr. Strong achieved this feat by placing $1 wagers on 10 winning
tickets—each valued at $50,000; and $.50 wagers on two winning tickets—each valued at $25,000. The
winning tickets were purchased at Takoma Liquors, 6200 Eastern Avenue, NE. The winning number was
9-1-5-7-5.
“This is very exciting for us,” said Strong, a recreation official in the District. “My wife and I are going to
buy a new home,” he said with his wife of eight years beaming by his side. Their light shone even
brighter as Strong stated that the winning numbers were chosen to reflect his wife’s birthday.
“Players are winning big with our entire line of Family of Numbers games,” says Interim Executive
Director Tracey Cohen referencing the DC-3, DC-4, and DC-5 games. Prize payouts for these games
combined have topped $44 million since January 2017, a three-year high for this same time period. DC-3
players shared a joint win of $460,000 playing 1-1-1 for the evening game played on April 21 of this year.
This was the highest payout for this since July 2015. On March 23, DC-4 players collectively won $2.4
million in prizes—the highest payout for this game since 2011. The winning number was 1-1-1-0.
Strong’s big win ranks #2 in prize payouts for DC-5. The first place holder cashed-in 22 winning tickets
for a win of more than $1,000,000 in March 2016.
The DC Lottery awarded a $1,000,000 top prize for the 100XTheCash instant scratcher ticket in April as
well. The winner was Sharon Williams of Washington, DC.
