COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to help current and potential business decision-makers solve problems that routinely
cause businesses to financially fail. It is a practical application of business mathematics including, but not
limited to: bank reconciliations; present value; markup and markdown; simple and compound interest; trade
and cash discounts; calculating overhead; and running payroll.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Successful students will be able to demonstrate the ability to perform and understand basic quantitative
calculations involving business and consumer finance related issues.
COURSE METHODS: The first three chapters will serve as a review of basic math concepts. Students enrolled
in this class should have a pretty good understanding of these chapters already, but must read the text and
the other content for these chapters and brush up on the concepts.

Students will perform basic quantitative calculations involving business and
consumer finance related issues.
Exam exercises and problems involving business and consumer finance related
topics will be evaluated by students and faculty.

evaluated by students and faculty.

ENROLLMENT
It is YOUR responsibility to ensure you are properly enrolled in this class. Students who are not officially
enrolled will not be allowed to remain in the classroom.
WITHDRAWL FROM THE COURSE
If you feel you cannot continue with the course, withdraw formally as soon as possible. If you do not formally
withdraw from the course you will automatically receive an F grade for the course and you WILL NOT be
withdrawn automatically. If you want a grade of “W” (withdrawal), you need to complete the withdrawal
paper work through TMCC Admissions and Records, 673-7042.

CLASS EXERCISES:
We will practice, and build our business math skills by working in teams during class time to solve problems.
Attendance, and participation in class problem-solving, is part of the course grade.
PHONES AND LAPTOPS:
Please do not use you phone or computer during class. If you do so, the instructor will give you one warning.
Thereafter, each incident of phone / computer use will incur a decrement of 30 points.
