Early Years Pupil Premium
The Early Years Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2015 and this is the first time
that we have been able to claim the extra funding. We received a total of £6018.15
for the financial year 2015/2016
Children who are eligible receive an allocation of funding of approximately £100.00
per child per term, and this is used to improve their Nursery School experience and
enhance their learning. Thank you for taking the trouble to claim your child’s
entitlement - this funding really does make a difference.
We met as a staff team to discuss children’s individual barriers to learning and to
decide which interventions would help us to close the gap and ensure that children
achieve their full potential, during their time with us.
In this table, ‘children’ refers just to the children eligible for early years pupil premium.
Intervention
To provide parent/carer groups,
workshops and celebration days
throughout the year to improve
children’s communication for language
and thinking. To share our knowledge
of sustained shared thinking
strategies and model practice to help
families to enhance the quality,
frequency and scope of their
interactions with their children.
To provide opportunities for children
and their families to explore the
wider community together, by
providing subsidised visits for the
children and a family member.
Impact
To provide 1:1 and very small group
sessions for highlighted children in
maths.
Family engagement was good and this
strengthened relationships.
On exit from the nursery 74% of children
were in line to meet the GLD in CLL
compared to 10.5% on entry.
Children made an average of 6.2 terms
progress in CLL over an average of 3.9
terms.
Parent evaluations showed very positive
feedback.
The percentage of parental / family
engagement has increased due to our
subsidy of the visits.
In ‘understanding the world’ EYPP children
made 5.9 terms progress overall, which is
outstanding progress and is above
nationally expected progress for this area
of learning.
The 4 children made 6, 6, 7.5 and 9 terms
progress in maths whilst with us for an
average of 4.75 terms
To provide very small group sessions
in maths and literacy, for those pupil
premium children who have higher
abilities. (Slightly different grouping
for maths and literacy.)
The highlighted children all left in line to
meet the GLD.
The highlighted group all attained 40-60
Developing, which is 1 term above
expected, in both maths and literacy.
To develop the partnership with
parents for home school reading. To
increase the children’s opportunities
to read and be read to. To make
parents aware of the importance of
reading and books. To provide quality
books and folders for the children to
take home.
To purchase the Living Eggs project,
to enable children to experience life
cycles and growth and development,
and to build on their social
interaction, caring and nurturing
skills.
All staff attend the Early Years
conference. The focus is on literacy
and especially storytelling and
practical ideas and activities to
support literacy in all areas.
The children made an average of 6.5 terms
progress in reading.
On average the children were in line with
expected development levels in reading,
that is 40-60E
In ‘understanding the world’ EYPP children
made 5.9 terms progress overall, which is
outstanding progress and is above
nationally expected progress for this area
of learning.
The project also proved a very good home
school link, as parents were just as involved
and interested as the children.
In literacy EYPP children made 6.3 terms
progress (more than 2 years) in the
nursery. This is in line with all children in
our nursery and is outstanding progress.
There is no gap in literacy for progress or
attainment within the nursery.
Whole school staff training linked to
literacy, speaking and listening has enabled
theses high outcomes.
The overall impact can be seen in the average entry and exit scores for
those children eligible for EYPP in the ‘Good Level of Development’
areas of learning
